higher magnifications with a M4/3 camera on a Leica M420?
higher magnifications with a M4/3 camera on a Leica M420?
On my Leica M420 I use directly a M4/3 Panasonic GX80 body, just fixed with an adapter (a 38mm tube fixed in a Olympus M4/3 bayonet ring), on top of the original makroscope photo tube (see pictures)
But if I want to get higher magnifications, without using a specific Leica/Wild M420 add-on (1.5x or 2x objectives put under the Apozoom), would it be possible to use a photo eyepiece put in the phototube itself ?
This photo tube with white "1.25x" writing is empty (no photo eyepiece inside) in my M420.
But if I'm not wrong, I think to have seen special photo eyepiece designed for this makroscope, But I don't know if they could be used with a M4/3 camera body alone!
Anybody already used such photo eyepiece for M420 makroscope, with a M4/3 camera body?
And are there different models, giving different magnifications?
Thank you for your help.

Re: higher magnifications with a M4/3 camera on a Leica M420?
On the m420 you'd use any of the standard 38mm adapters that Wild offered. That could be the afocal setup with a viewing eyepiece (not great) or afocal with one of the dedicated photo eyepieces (probably better), but if you're using m4/3 it's probably going to be a poor result. You could also use Nikon 38mm adapters with a projective eyepiece. But honestly you could probably use a good teleconverter for better results.

tank you scarodactyl for your answer and teleconverter idea!

Question about teleconverter 1.5x or 2x :
Is the distance between TC and camera sensor specific to each type?
As in fact, I could have a Nikon teleconverter but I wonder if I put an adapter between it and the M4/3 camera, therefore increasing it's normal distance, if it could work correctly ?
Thank you for advices

Yes, that spacing is going to matter. I don't know what you can get away with in using one out of spec before the image quality degrades noticeably, but I would guess you can't get away with much.

Thank you scarodactyl
that's what I was afraid of!
And teleconverter for this Panasonic M4/3 camera is more expensive than camera itself .....

I have never used a m4/3 camera before, but I assume since the mount is the same that you could use any m4/3 teleconverter, though of course some are probably much better than others.
