Ooops I did it again...Just Can't Resist these Zeiss
Ooops I did it again...Just Can't Resist these Zeiss
Got another Zeiss. Doesn't help that they offer them so cheap. This one is a Standard 18, binocular head with 8X KPL eyepieces, four objective turret with 10X 0.25 Achro, Plan 40X 0.84 oil, Neofluar 100X 1.30 objectives, mechanical stage, metal 13 blade light port diaphragm and 6V 15W lighting system.
Here it is broken down, cleaned and lubed: Together with added 1.30 flip top condenser:

Very nice. You most definitely have a nose for this.

Yes, the nose and the eye but I need to stop buying everything I see that I like.

wow you tear them completely down for cleaning? That is amazing. I spend a good deal of time but do not go to that length unless something is wrong mechanically.
Re: Ooops I did it again...Just Can't Resist these Zeiss
Thank you Seb!
Yes, I try to break down the major components in order to get everything cleaned and lubed. In this one, I also had to break down the base light diaphragm to clean the inside glass surfaces as they were hazed.

Nice microscope Charles. I think 75RR said the model 18 was the most versatile?
YA, leave something for the rest of us will you!Charles wrote:Yes, the nose and the eye but I need to stop buying everything I see that I like.
Just dive in einman - they dont look any tougher than a Kitchenaide mixer!einman wrote:wow you tear them completely down for cleaning? That is amazing.

The Standard 18 has the interchangeable objective turret, and has different lighting systems from 6V-12V, otherwise they are like the 14 and 16s. The Standard WL gives you the most versatility since you can swap out not only the objective turret but also the stage and condenser carrier with quick release mechanisms, which are the same that are on the large Universals, Photomicroscopes and the huge Ultraphots.
There is plenty out there to chose from, if you have the patience and know what you are looking at.
It is probably as simple as a Kitchenaide. My daughter has one with all these different attachments...she doesn't let me touch it.
