Hydra Thru The Macro Lens
Hydra Thru The Macro Lens
I got a new tripod and a couple new tripod heads, so here we are trying out and getting to know some new equipment. What better practice than to photograph these lovely models? Canon T3i body, and Canon 60 mm macro, and Canon 100 mm macro lenses + Kenko extension tubes. Illumination is an LED ring light for stereo microscopes placed atop the micro aquarium, and a vintage Spencer Model 370 microscope lamp providing side lighting.
The last one is a bit unique, as it is a free floating Hydra. Setting off to see new horizons, I guess. I call it "Hydra the Hobo".

Amazingly beautiful pictures! The illumination, the detail, and the overall effect are fantastic.
Re: Hydra Thru The Macro Lens
That new equipment has certainly landed in very capable hands!!
Those are gorgeous shots, expertly lit, great color and sharpness.
The second one is outstanding.
Well done man!

Beautiful images, thank you, Kurt. Regarding that final image..these Pelmatohydra oligactis (?sp?) actually do 'walk on their tentacles sometimes! The grace and delicacy of your organisms here are a treat...I haven't encountered a hydra in over a year..I haven't made a dedicated attempt to...but such nice meiofauna you treat us with. charlie guevara

Holy smokes! I echo all the above. Beautiful. Worth printing and framing.
You described an elaborate set up that resulted in great results. Well done.

Thank you all! It's great fun to leave the world and rest of the universe behind, and hang out in a tiny bit of water for a while. Your kind comments go a long way towards motivating me to do more.
