Got Ya Covered
Got Ya Covered
I had a chore that I had been meaning to get around to, and because the kids did not have any activities to attend today, I had a chance to get after it.
I had recently added a couple of scopes to the stable, and they both need dust covers. So I fired up the '53 Singer and made covers for the Oly KHC and the AO Cycloptic. I can dispose of the plastic shopping bags that I had been using....

Re: Got Ya Covered
Sweet! Great looking covers and Singer!
Re: Got Ya Covered
Dude, you crack me up! I have that exact same Singer machine, lol! It's a real sweet heart isn't it? Mine was just given to me a few years ago and it runs like a Swiss watch. A couple Youtube videos taught me enough to successfully make a whole bunch of scope covers (out of retired bed sheets) plus several slip cases for my many pairs of glasses and sunglasses.
Cheers,

I love the machine! I like the covers too, although I must admit that I prefer the colorful ones that einman's wife made for him

Yes that Singer is a great machine. I got mine off of Craigslist for $40. That's only $1 a pound. These are really built to last, and my serial number places its birthday in 1953.
I bought mine last winter and just like you, used You Tube and Google to teach myself how to sew. Just wanted to be able to do projects like these in support of various hobbies. My path started with little drawstring pouches, and ended up by making my wife a laptop case.
My first microscope dust covers were very simple bag type, not particularly well fitted, but did the job. Today I made more of an effort to fit the scope better. The Oly came out great, the bottom is a nice tight seal, and the body is better sculpted to the shape of the scope.
For the Cycloptic, I tried a new construction, I made a cylinder, which required a new skill, attaching the sleeve to the round cap. Piece of cake! Fun when it works out.

Thanks Gekko. I saw those electric covers, I think they would mess up the Feng Shui of my lab.... ;^)gekko wrote:I love the machine! I like the covers too, although I must admit that I prefer the colorful ones that einman's wife made for him

How did you light your photos? I do not see any shadows, and
the dof is great.

I used the trusty Nexus 6 phone. Used wide angle which helps with apparent DOF.
The light was a couple of overhead florescent banks, nothing special.
Thanks,
Rod

If anything ever happens to that phone, Rod is just gonna shrivel up and blow away...
