I will soon join John B as an owner of a mighty shandon...almost definately

#1 Post by billben74 » Wed Feb 24, 2016 9:53 pm

I am happy to announce that (baring any major disasters) I will soon join the lucky John B to own a mighty Shandon.
I decided to hop past the rocker and head for heady shores a big proper microtome, with replacable baldes.

On another odd note I discovered there is a disposapal knife holder for the cambridge rocker. Its just it costs £473.
Its from pfm medical. In the unlikely event anyone from the forum wants one I can provide a contact email to source this difficult to source item.
I have not tried it but the source is exceptionally knowledagble about microtomes and works as a consultant for pfm.

Anyway. Thanks to John B that gave me a little push in this direction.
It should be with me soon ish. This being the last detail to tie up in the transaction.
:)

And thanks Jim and Charlie.

My house is quite modest so there aren't too many places a 40kg microtome can go.
It will be the empty (well, not for long) work surface in the kitchen.

I'm hoping my wife will continues to be patient with my new obsession ;)

Hello all.
The new addition to the family has arrived.
The mighty Shandon.

40+ kg of slicing joy. Sadly I'm busy with marking books and family business to actually get going with paraffin embedding today or tomorrow.
But it will happen (no doubt with some help of the amazingly helpful John B --> thanks again).

Any way I'll post some slightly poor quality pics (sorry, in a hurry and only have my 2mega pixels ancient phone to take snaps)

Can't wait to follow your adventures, you're in for a fantastic time Bill!
Congratulations, lots and lots of them old fellow! :D

Your new mantra must surely be..... 10µ or bust! :D (make a good 'bumper-sticker') ....
