Bosch & Lomb teaching scope

Here's one of a batch of 6 identicle microscopes from a Texas university.
Not much info available. Seems to have been used for an intro level class, there is a plug where the oil immersion objective should be. (Ordered one from eBay)
Serial number dates it to 1959, according to the list floating around posted by Klaus in 2009.
It seems to be the basic frame of the ST, but sports a split condenser and a mechanical stage.
The number 16033-433 is cast into the base, probably a part number. Above it is 43 hand engraved on the base. From a time when you worked from behind the arm.
The tubus above the nose piece is removable, and hints at more advanced attachments.

Split condenser, top element is attached to the stage and the bottom element with the iris and filter slot (32x1mm) is on a rack.

The leading H apparently indicates 1959, but I'm sure they made them for several years.

What is the purpose of that split condenser? For zooming light cone size?

This is a Bausch and Lomb series T, if the monocular tube is exchangeable for a binocular head. If the monocular tube cannot be exchanged, then it is a model F.
The idea was the same as for the models, 15 and 35 from AO/Spencer.

Yes, to cover the field for the 3.5x objective., primarily , although B & L had the capability for very wide fields,with basic microscopes, if certain models of oculars were used, so to cover even the 10x sometimes, as well. You an still find older B & L eyepieces from the 160mm tube length era of B & L , with 22mm f.o.v.

This is a Bausch and Lomb series T, if the monocular tube is exchangeable for a binocular head.

This would seem to be the case here. The tube is easily removable and has a pin in back and settles on top of the nose piece. There is a set screw with a large head at the top of the moving rack face that engages it and pulls it tight. My first thought was that pregnant binocular arrangement could slip right on here, but a tube with an epi illuminator would not be out of the question.
