Litonotus hunts and eats 2 ciliates

This is not a good looking video but I think it's interesting.
I was happy to catch this moment. I never saw before how one ciliate eats another.
400x.

Litonotus is a predator ciliate. It has trichocysts(cells with poison) which it uses like darts to kill and immobilize the prey before eating.
You can see in the video that the prey is completely paralized before it is eaten.

That is a fantastic example of natural history behaviour study! Well captured and great to see!

An excellent catch! It's hard enough to capture Litonotus eating anything, much less two critters without such a short time span.
