Measuring Worth

#1 Post by 75RR » Sun Apr 05, 2015 12:27 pm

Do not know if this is meaningful or if any one will find this relevant but after downloading the Spencer Sales Catalogue at viewtopic.php?f=14&t=720, even though I do not own a Spencer anything - I find these old catalogues interesting, I decided to find out what einman's 810 microtome which cost $150 in 1929 was worth in today's money.

The answer is $2000 dollars! A serious purchase at that time.

I used this site to calculate the value: http://www.measuringworth.com/
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

Yes, and that corredponds pretty well to what you have to pay for a new rotary microtome today.

I have nothing useful to add. But I feel it would be remiss of me not to point out that the title sounds a lot like a hypothetical English town, as might be used in a period movie.

"And this is our new vicar, Mr Peter Brown. He's from Measuringworth."
