Desmid - Closterium by Håkan Kvarnström, on Flickr
Thanks all, and thanks charlie! Yes, freshwater specimen alive and kicking. I found a samole bottle that had been sitting in the garage with the screw cap on since april 2017. I noticed some green residue at the bottom and decided to take a look. Pediastrum and some other algae and these Closterium.charlie g wrote:What a delicate crystalline crescent you share with us, thank you hkv..this evokes our crescent moon, complete with some 'green cheese'. Regards to an ID...I'm 'chiken' to advise you..but I will peek at my vintage library texts. Was this image capture from a fresh collected specimen? Charlie guevara
Yes, It was fresh observed. I sucked it out of the bottle and put in onto the slide with a water film. #1 cover slip. A lot of movement inside the desmid. Especially at the ends where a lot of small organelles were tumbling around.charlie g wrote:...again I ask...was it fresh collected/ fresh observed? Charlie guevara
A very healthy Closterium. I very much enjoy observing the Brownian motion of the organelles.A lot of small organelles were tumbling around.
Thanks!billben74 wrote:They are great subjects. As ever with your images beautifully taken
