I was observing my saliva for cheek cells when I found these...

Specimen taken at 400x magnification.

Can anyone identify? :?

likely a clutch of wild yeast cells. your mouth would be full of them.

I wonder about the conclusion in the second article. Haven't looked at the primary source, but consumption of fermented foods predates human evolution. I'd think that this commensalism between bacteria and fungi in the gut would have existed for far longer than bread and beer.

Edit: A search for "mycobiome" will turn up more than you ever wanted to know. :)
