I collect old lab equipment, mainly organic glassware. My old school gave me this scope as they were getting brand new stuff.
I did a little searching online and I think it's a Reichert Zetopan. It has an olympus light box that when plugged in, lights up the back and you can see through the optical lenses, but a small field of vision. I'm not very good with microscopes, let alone old ones, so I believe some aperature is closed somewhere.
There is also another light illuminator and one other piece to it but I didn't take pictures of those.
Wondering if it indeed is a Zetopan, thanks!

Reichert Zetopan?
Re: Reichert Zetopan?
This looks exactly like the Zetopan I used ages ago. I think it is a Zetopan. The Zetopan was reviewed along with another Reichert model in Microscopy-UK I think about 1-2 years ago. It is a fairly good microscope. I can't remember if it had finite or infinity corrected optics.
Re: Reichert Zetopan?
Congrats, KB1FRo, on your venerable Zetopan. Please share the specs etched on it's sequence of objective lens-units, and the specs etched/printed on the occulars. I due notice: "Reichert/Wein" on one objective...yet the base is imprinted:"Reichert/Austria". Look for specs listed on the substage condenser.
An excellent forum: 'Microscope" in yahoo groups.com...well there is a photo alblum from "Frez" (was..may still be forum owner)..On his astounding 'near complete Zetopan modular systems...the variety of substage condensers, variety of objective and ocular components. Visit this yahoogroups forum: Microscope..you will find the components there which you may now be proud owner off.
Funny how in that Zetopans worklife...as the microscope-workhorse...well the Patho dept you were gifted this stand from..thought nothing of 'gouging dept ownership' on the elegant base of this elegant instrument...ouch!
I enjoy the baby cousin biological student Reichert/Austria microscope...the "Biozet". Please visit that photo alblum of Frez's Zetopan collection of systems.
Thanks for this interesting post. Charlie guevara

KB1FRO,
Definitely a Zetopan. Better yet, the Ph A (yellow band) objectives are Anoptral Phase Contrast . They're pretty rare, and should do quite nicely if you have a Zetopan phase condenser.

Re: Reichert Zetopan?
It is actually the original Reichert lamp house, just being run from an Olympus PSU, so all is well there. Quite an involved lighting system, and so I think if you were to open all diaphragms, you would get a better field of view.KB1FRO wrote:I collect old lab equipment, mainly organic glassware. This was a Rolls-Royce of microscopes in its day. The level of engineering is fantastic. They don't make them like this anymore.

Re: Reichert Zetopan?
Congratulations. Looks like a nice Zetopan. There are two levers on the top of the base near the focus knobs, one on either side, which controls where the light goes/comes from...epi or transmitted.
