Two views of ostracods. The first is in dark field with the 4X obj. The second is in X polarized light with the 10X obj. to show the birefringence.

Nice ostracods - the Birefringence really shows up. Did you slow them down or wait for them to catch their breath?
Reminded me that I have not seen one in a long time. Probably for the best though, I always seem to mush one when I do find them.

These were in a concave slide and yes I did have to wait until they got tired.

I have many in a jar from last year and I do try not to squash them :)

Nice Ostracod image captures, Jim T, thanks. I always sense the larger Ostracods in samples I collect are akin to 'bumble bees' in their bumpy and twirls of movements.

For me, often times these bumbeling meiofauna sport a few epizoic, or epiphytic attached organisms. Such fuzzy and delightful water neighbors of ours...these 'seed shrimp'...thanks for shareing your encounter, Jim T. . Charlie guevara

Thnks. As I said I had to wait a bit until it slowed down. Many more in the jar but very little else. I wonder if they ate the other protists.

Very nice images! I find these very difficult to shoot. You have managed very well though!
