another Diatom
A diatom in vivo. The photo is not stacked.
Re: another Diatom
Stunning!
Some technical details would be most welcomed: What size is the diatom ? which optics was used for imaging? Thanks in advance.

Beautiful image. A surprisingly large area in focus too for a single image.

Thank you for the feedback, it motivates to post more
Anybody who can help to identify this diatom?
Size is about 200 um. Photo was taken with the Zeiss IM35 (vertical) microscope. It uses the old Zeiss finite DIC, objective was the Planapo 25/0,65.Hobbyst46 wrote:Stunning!

Maybe it is because the focus on the raphne of the diatom and with a vertical microscope this area rests directly on the cover glass?75RR wrote:Beautiful image. A surprisingly large area in focus too for a single image.

Could well be. As you mentioned earlier - gravity is your friend if you have an inverted microscope :)Maybe it is because the focus on the raphne of the diatom and with a vertical microscope this area rests directly on the cover glass?

Re: another Diatom
Thank you Håkan for your feedback. By the way: I just had a first look on some of you photos that you share on flickr. They are very very impressive! I will need much more time to have a closer look. They are probabely the result of your Olympus BX51?
