Leitz Ortholux Petrographic
Leitz Ortholux Petrographic
One of my Leitz Ortholux microscopes. This is the petrographic setup with mono head with photo tube, rotating circular stage with point count slide holder and individual quick change Pol objectives.

Re: Leitz Ortholux Petrographic
Jim, the Ortholux was produced from 1937 to 1970 with several modifications along the way. The first ones only had one lamp port in the base with a lever to move a mirror to direct the light for transmitted or epi. The next major modification was adding the second light port for epi lighting along with the original lower port for transmitted light. The third major modification was adding a field iris in the light path just before the light port for Kohler lighting. This model is the third one which was produced between 1963 and 1970.
Glenn, yes, bayonet mounts.

Here is the first model of the Leitz Ortholux with only one light port in the base and lever (circled in red) to direct the light for either transmitted or epi:
And the second model with two light ports but no field diaphragm which is noted with the lack of diaphragm securing knob (which you can see in the Petrographic model above) in the red circled area:
