Re: A Wonderful Old Spencer Buffalo...
Hey Bill,
She is a beauty! And you will find that she is quite capable.
I picked one just like it up a few months ago, like you, a great deal on Ebay.
A lot of these scopes seem to survive pretty well. I think many times it can be attributed to the case so many of them have with them. The discipline of replacing a scope back in its case can provide a level of protection that is hard to beat. Add to that the really stout and well done finish that Spencer laid on these scopes and they really hold up.
Mine was in fantastic shape as well. I will show you the scope and some shots I grabbed through it, afocal, some crystals and a cross section of a Christmas Cactus leave.
You are in for treat when you fire yours up. Congratulations.
Rod

Beautiful, very well made instruments (and no plastic gears that split in the focusing mechanism!)

Thanks Bill.billbillt wrote:Wow, Rod!... I am very impressed!..... Those are some wonderful photos you took... May I ask about your camera set up?..
These were all taken using a Nexus 6 phone camera held up to the eyepiece. I do use a cylinder of closed cell foam to assist in maintaining the proper spacing, which was discussed here:

Nothing too elaborate.
Be sure to report back when you have a chance to get your new/old scope up and running.
