Hi all,
As my first post into the imaging section of this forum, I would like to share with you some of my recent shots of paramecium.
Images were captured with Canon 750D on an Olympus BX51 in DIC with a x20 objective.

- Paramecium formed small clusters in the vicinity of algal strands. This is one such cluster.

- Paramecium feeding on the biofilm that encapsulates a strand of alga. The cell nuclei and cytoskeletal network is visible in the algal cells that form the filament. It is mind blowing to watch the motor proteins streaming along the dynamic filaments that make up the network.

- A rootlet of an aquatic plant provides the framework for a dense ecosystem of microscopic life. We can see it covered with all kinds of algal, cyanobacteria and diatomic species. A Paramecium bursaria feeds on bacteria living in this dense forest.

- Here we can see Paramecium bursaria photographed as it skimmed up and down along an algal strand feeding on bacteria. It's mouth part and cilia are clearly visible aswell as the mutualistic endosymbiotic Zoochlorella (green alga), birefringent crystals and various cellular compartments. The cellulose cell walls of the alga strand exhibiting optical activity.

Really great shots. Somehow reminds me to the old Zeiss DIC system - respectivley the color contrast image.

Very nice. Especially like the second one.
Could you tell/show us how the 'flash' is incorporated?
I take it that means you used a 20x objective?Images were captured with Canon 750D on an Olympus BX51 in DIC at ~ x200 using flash.

Beautiful subjects, fantastic image captures, a sense of how these protozoa swarm and prod substrate, and tumble from you images...thank you for this wonderful posting. Charlie Guevara, I'm fond of protozoa.
