Hi folks,
Found in a slow moving stream in a freshwater wetland.
Haven't seen anything quite like this before.
Found 2 in the sample.
Thoughts folks ?
Cheers

Re: Swamp Biscuit
Amazing - hopefully, might be a centric diatom!?
I would try and devise a way to eliminate the yellow pigments and expose a (hopefully) clean frustule. Easier said than done, if there are only two of its kind...

Re: Swamp Biscuit
It's the shell of a dead Arcella (testate amoeba).
Re: Swamp Biscuit
Thanks folks
Hobbyst46, that is levels of skill way beyond me, I don't have the gear or ability to even separate it from all the other "crud" in that very small sample.
Let alone do all the clever stuff I read about in the recent thread on cleaning diatoms.
Bruce, Arcella was sort of my thought but it didn't occur to me to think of it being an empty house for one
Cheers

Hello Grahame,
cannot figure the size oft he creatures from the numbers in the pictures, 30 µm and 20 µm cannot be the diameters?
I believe these are Arcella of the hemisphaerica/rotundata/intermedia-Komplex, sizes between approx. 35 and 62 µm.
Greetings,
Hans

Hi Hans,
Yes that is the diameter of the shells.
Thanks for the ideas about the group they belong to.
That's an interesting website you have must have a better look later on.
Cheers
