Hello all there in the microbe world.
I recently acquired a bunch of old microscope odd and ends and am having a hard time identifying one particular odd item
as you can see from the images I have provided it has a knob on the side that translates to a lens element moving up and down in side the central tube
thought it was some kind of magnification changer?
the specs of the dovetail are
43.44 top of bevel and 41mm at base

Re: Microscope part identification help
Looks like it is the collector for a Zeiss West Lamp Housing 100. There are two version available, one that has 2 lenses (used on the housing equiped with the 100W lamp) and one with 3 lenses for the HBO50 mercuri high pressure lamp.

Re: Microscope part identification help
It is from a Zeiss Lamp Housing.
Could be either from the 100w Halogen or the 50w HBO, to tell you need to remove the focusing lens. (What you thought might be a magnification changer)
To do that you need to remove the two small screws on either side of the knob, you then pull the knob part of the way out. This disengages it from the focusing lens, you then pull the focusing lens out.
Attached images show location of screws + removed focusing lens
If the focusing lens looks like the one in the photo it is for the 100W Halogen - let me know if it is. I am looking for one.

Re: Microscope part identification help
I here a picture of the barrel that was inside the tube and yes thanks for the tip! it just simply fell out quite easily after I loosened the 2 set screws and WOW those were small ones!
from my observation the unit appears to have more then one lens but there all in one group towards the front of the device.
