While excavating through the archives I ran across this image of a little arrangement of forams that I posted a while back, but hope you won't mind if I repeat it because it got me fired up to retrieve the sample, dig a few more out, and have a little fun trying to make some interesting new pix. Then Cuxlander posted his beautiful foram image yesterday, so here are a few I ended up with to keep the ball rolling.
First, the original bunch I already ran past you:
The idea was to give the viewer a feel for size in a way a little more juicy than a dry scale bar, so I posed one in the eye of a #12 sewing needle:
Then it occurred to me that we seldom, if ever, see forams presented as they are found, among the grains of the sand sample they were discovered in:
And finally, you just gotta put the sand under crossed polarizers, right? Texas beach sand appears to be largely quartz, I'd say:
Just a little fun in the lab...

Re: More Foram Fun
Attractive, cool photos! I like them all.
why is the foram absent from the polar image ? would demonstrate the difference from the quarz grains.

Thanks, all!
Where were you when I needed you? Guess I gotta go back and re-do that one...why is the foram absent from the polar image ? would demonstrate the difference from the quarz grains.
