Fire Ant
Re: Fire Ant
wow, very nice! i got stung by lots off those when i lived near Houston.
Re: Fire Ant
Nice. How did you mount your specimen? Ow did you utilize the polarized light? equipment? I have not tried polarized lighting. I have played around with photomacrography and plan on doing more once my lab is back up. Here is one of a fruitfly using a Nikon SMZ-U.
Here is one of a carpenter ant.
I have posted some pics in the past. I hope to delve into it more this year. Specifically with the Dacetines and Attas.

Hello Einman.
I purchased the slide, along with a slide of a queen. I don’t know what medium was used.
Photo was shot on my Olympus SZ40 stereo scope. Analyzer is a camera filter that is attached to the ring light coller, and the slide sits on a small polarazed holder I made that I can slide around on the ground glass for composition adjusting the analyzer to maintain crossed polarizers.
Really nice pictures, BTW.

Re: Fire Ant
Just thinking out loud, but has anyone tried setting the subject in front of a backlit sheet of polarized material, and put a polarized filter on the camera? I know this is probably how they do the stress in plexiglass photography.
Not sure how this might work with a live subject.
Bwahahahaha more experiments!

Re: Fire Ant
Hmm.. I will have to try polarized lighting sometime. Would be interesting to determine if night flying species vary vs daytime etc.
