Darkfield using Olympus BH2/BHS

#1 Post by sombre » Wed May 22, 2019 5:57 pm

Assistance please,
My microscope is an Olympus bh2/bhs and i should like to be able to view subjects in darkfield.
Unfortunately there is no filter holder beneath the condenser in which to place a darkfield patch stop.
Does anyone know a way in which i can work round this problem, or if there is an attachment or
alternative condenser i could get. If so please let me know.
I have spent countless hours searching the net for some kind of fix, but to no avail, I would therefore be most grateful for
any advice.

Many thanks,
Sombre

Not that easy to answer, it would help to let us know which condenser you have.
You'll have to build some kind of support to fit under/inside the condenser where you could put some stops.
But you won't be able to realize good darkfield for higher magnifications that way anyways.

Maybe this could give you kind of an idea:

You could also try to find an affordable phase contrast condenser,
you would get nice and easy dark field on the lower magnifications with the ph stops.
And you could upgrade your BH to 1-2 ph objectives later..

Regards,
Stefan

Many thanks to all for the help and suggestions.
I think I will go down the diy route until such times as I can find the correct condenser etc:
Again many thanks.

There is a seller on eBay selling a nice system that works with the standard BH2-CD abbe condenser. Check it out.
