Re: Test link to Google Photos
Cleared data in chrome. Logged out of google and shut down laptop.
Cleared data in apple tablet browser.
Logged in to microbehunter forum. (With my iPad)
Opened sandbox and I can still see the last post. Will now try linking a new image to microbe hunter from google photos in the way I did previously.

Re: Test link to Google Photos
This post is made exclusively on the ipad. From Google photos.
Taken with iPad camera.
Uploaded to Google Photos direct from iPad. (Not easy to figure out) as it wanted me to first of all download the app, which I didn’t do. Opened google photos from the web browser.
Inserted into this post from iPad by opening the link to ih3 (as shown in the post on how to, again not easy to figure out how to do that with the iPad built in browser).
From the preview window it seems to work?????

Re: Test link to Google Photos
it would seem that if the link doesn’t have the address beginning with IH3 it will not work. I will now log out with all my devices and turn off my wifi on the iPad while I go make some lunch. It would be nice if you could check it again in the next half hour or so to see if you can still see the images. There are now a total of three on the test page, including the last on i made through the window.

Regrettably, I cannot see an image in your recent post
... But I can see the two images in your opening post
Happy to look again, later, and to report accordingly.

By quoting your post ^^^ I was able to see the [very long] address for that imageRoldorf wrote:This post is made exclusively on the ipad. From Google photos.

I cut that and simply pasted it here without the img and /img HTML codes
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ks0Uq ... 4-h1322-no
But when I click that link it still doesn't display the image.
Will it, or won't it, when you log back in ... I wonder

Re: Test link to Google Photos
So why can we see the first two images and not the last one.
As far as I can see they all have the same format and yet the first two show up but the last one not.
Hmmmmm. I will go paint a door (literally) and think about it.

For what it's worth, at this point in time, I can see all three images.

Alan,
It's only a guess, but ... I suspect it has something to go with your 'sharing permissions'
I don't use Google Photos myself, but it looks like the settings may tricky to get right:

Keep up the good work

I am. I'm especially dim-witted! I cleared my browser cache and am no longer special - I see the first two images, but not the third.

Re: Test link to Google Photos
I just logged out of google photos on my iPad and now I can’t see the third image.
So the question is why can we see the first two images from photos and not the last? Both visible images point to google photos.
I wonder if it has something to do with the length of time they have been uploaded to photos? The first was uploaded some time ago. The second was uploaded yesterday. The images on the howto all seem to work viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7815&p=68984#p68984
and they were also done more than a day ago, and are exclusive to Google Photos. They are not stored anywhere else.

For what it's worth [probably nothing]; I notice that, in your first post, the first and third images have much longer addresses than the second one.

OK website is called postimage
https://postimages.org/
It seems to be pretty easy to do and according to the website there is no restriction on storage space
To create an account you simply have to give your email address and you get a mail with your login password and that's it.
Please someone try it and let me know if it works for you.
I tried Imgur but they want to have your mobile phone number to create an account so I gave that up. you would end up with loads of crap.

Re: Test link to Google Photos
Create your account with email address.
You will receive an email from them with your password.
Go to website postimages.org
Login with your email and the password you received.
Type a gallery name and click on create new gallery.
Click on upload and drag and drop the image you want to upload.
Once uploaded click on image and share.
You will get a list of different sharing options.
I used direct link. Click on the far right on the folder image on direct link and it will say copied.
Go to your microbehunter post click image and paste between the tags.
Done.

Seems to be working fine Alan. Well done! I tried to carry out a test but have not received a password from postimages - my ISP's mail server is having trouble with passwords right now. Will try again later.

Great and a very nice image too.
Re: Test link to Google Photos
Glad it worked OK Alan, and the process is simple. Should be a very good option to the other, limited storage, hosting services, and an encouragement to minimize space useage on the forum. Thanks for all the effort you have put into it.

Re: Test link to Google Photos
Hi together,
after that Photobucket problem I'm somewhat wary when it comes to external image hosts. A few others have quit too and a forum without the images is not worth a lot. Especially a forum loke this were valuable information is posted. When a forum goes down the links to external image hosts are as worthless as the images stored on the forum. But when one of many image hosters stops to work the forum is affected even when it is running well on it's own.
I wasn't aware of the 100 MB image limit and I don't know the reason for it. If storage volume costs Oliver Kim a lot of money we could go through our images and delete those of little general interest. It would also be an idea to collect some money to make more space available if this is needed.
What do you think about this?
Bob
