Which microscope is this nosepiece for?

#1 Post by MikeBradley » Mon Sep 02, 2019 6:19 am

I came across this item in an estate collection, it seems to be brand shiny new. Can anyone tell me which microscope model this nosepiece is for? It looks very like a Zeiss design but the mounting rails are too narrow to fit the Zeiss Standard range.
Thanks
Michael

It looks like its for the Universal/Photomicroscope (II and III) series.

Hi Mike,

to clarify this a picture from the side would be useful. Probably Phomi/Universal. The Phomi/Universal 1 were made from mid-50s to late 60s and there actually were a 1a and 1b (from 1961 on). The 1b had the same nosepiece mount as the later Phomi/Universal 2 and 3.

I've added a picture taken from the side that shows the mounting keyway to assist in identification.

Yes ImperatorRex I had noticed the very nice (and pricey) multi-immersion objective and it works as advertised when mounted on my Standard.

This is for sure a Phomi/Universal nose piece 1961 on.
Did they paint them grey for the Phomi 2 and 3 ?

Don't know about Phomi 2 but the different nosepieces of Phomi 3 are black like the ones Mike posted.

When Phomi 1 and 3 had black nosepieces I think Phomi 2 will have had them too. Then this one was made somewhen between 1961 and mid-80s when microscopes like the Axioplan took over.
