Universal Stage on a BX

This is a BX61 with the BX-RLAA brightfield/darkfield epi lifted up 3.5 inches to make room for a large objective and a Zeiss universal stage.

So it looks like this could work, and unlike one article published which used a standard objective with too short of a working distance, the super long working distance of the Mitutoyo should allow for use of all the hemisphere lenses. (But that's not tested yet.) Also the motored turret needs to be replaced with a manual one or maybe a back-and-forth two or three linear turret like Thorlabs sells. Metal could drive into metal by accident with the swing motion.

So you modified the stage holder and the microscope arm? How did you do it and Is it reversible? Not that I have a BX, just curious.

The BX 41/51/61 have removable arms and their vertical illuminators have the arm as a part of their bases. It's designed that way so that an extended can be placed under the epi/turret holder so that the distance above the stage can be increased. I've never seen the extenders for sale, probably because Olympus only sold those with the "electro-physiological applications" set-ups.

The BX 50/60 have the arm cast into the base.

So nothing is going to be drilled or cut into the BX to make this work. Just assembled. I'll CNC a block though of aluminum. You can see the set up but without LWD objectives here, so they had some problems using the universal stage's lenses: https://www.mccrone.com/universal-stage ... icroscope/
