Cup for dip in

#1 Post by Piter_ » Thu Sep 19, 2019 7:16 am

Hi all.
Is there any place where I can buy an objective cup for dip in microscopy?
Thanks.
Petro.

Hi Petro,
only a few manufactureres made these specifically for just a few objectives in their system. Objectives are very different so such a cap has to be made for just one model of objective. It is possible to make one yourself, this has been done before. Do you have a lathe or a 3d printer?

Hi Bob.
I was afraid so. I have seen such thing back in 80es, shown by our biology teacher, and never since.
I have none of them, but I think I can get access easily.
I will give it a try, Now sure if 3D printer is precise enough, do you have any experience.
Best.

For a proper slip fit a 3D printer is not precise enough. But PLA is soft from 60°C on so you probably can print it a bit under size and press it on after warming the collar of the cup in hot water. Or just enlarge it slightly with fine emery paper and a wood dowel.
