I have always wanted to try out one of these.
might be very handy on a camping trip.
I wonder if you could put it over a lightbox for viewing transmitted light samples?

I thought it practicable,I also recommend you some other brand Portable microscope like “PEAK”(from a japanese company),it's seems to have better quality, but Less replaceable, and also more expensive. But anyway, portable microscopes are still cheap.(40~100$)

Hi together,
LOMO made such a workshop microscope in very good optical quality: http://www.mikroskopfreunde-nordhessen. ... /MBP-3.jpg
It is a lot longer than the german and japanese workshop microscopes and their clones and this makes it a bit tippy but it offers a good wide image, two magnifications (bottom lens removable) and a trans illumination base with a small mirror. They were packed in slender long red plastic boxes and turn up on german ebay from time to time.

Just thought-I reckon a good design to include transmitted for these portable scopes would be to be able to shine torch into some tube/beam splitter arrangement and have “stage” be round disk and specimen is placed of centre a bit so stage could be just rotated to scan rather than any x/y type arrangement- just inventer style brain musings...
