Stauroneis phoenicenteron (COL-DIC)

Planapo 63x/1.4, COL and DIC, 100µm length stacked in Photoshop

This is from a Klaus Kemp 8 Form slide

Not the fairest of comparisons as I used the position III phase annulus in the condenser to achieve COL and it is a little small for best results with the 63x

Very nice 75RR. I note that your 63x doesn't seem to be wearing out with use - still producing just as good images as ever! The lower image in particular is very good.

Thanks tgss

Even though the COL would be better with a larger annulus I think it still shows it to be a good step up on brightfield.

Both images are very nice !
On the one hand, the DIC appears to be 3D, on the other hand, I remember that it is not necessarily true.
The COL on the other hand is quite similar to phase contrast. I guess that it is nearer the "true" image (where true=SEM, but only my guess).

Not a diatomist by any means, but based on many other images I've seen I'd say the COL is definitely an improvement.
