Entomoneis

#1 Post by 75RR » Wed Mar 04, 2020 10:08 am

Attempting to ID an Entomoneis diatom (think that is what it is anyway) to species level. Anyone have info that might help?

Came across this article on my search but unfortunately I can't open the pdf file - appears to be broken. Perhaps someone else will have better luck.

Hi 75'
Here's a link to the pdf in my shared g-drive...
When you click on the link the message will tell you that the document can't be viewed - but it CAN be downloaded - look top RHS for the download icon on this dark message screen - it'll download to your machine for you - I hope...

See this screen-snip, the icn left of the three vertical dots is the one.

Afraid I could not find my way around Google docs

I am able to download the pdf file from the original site, it is just that it will not open for me. Did you manage to open it?

Will PM you my email

Urk - I see what you mean - can't open it. AVS doc converter says it's an invalid or broken file also.... I'll have a closer look at it and get back.

Downloaded, saved, but cannot open. My free PDF editor claims that it is password-protected.

There is a workaround:
In plain simple Google, locate this site:

Entomoneis Reimeri Sp. Nov., a New Saline Diatom Species ...
www.academia.edu › Entomoneis_Reimeri_Sp._Nov._a_New_Saline_Di...
TRansaCTions of The kansas Vol. 116, no. 3-4 aCaDemy of sCienCe p. 113-118 (2013) Entomoneis reimeri sp. nov., a new saline diatom species from Kansas ...

Then slowly pagin downword you reach a ReadMe pushbutton, and you can read the article online even without going through the Google account or using a PDF reader.

Thanks Hobbyst46

mrsonchus found an alternative site and link for the article

https://img.algaebase.org/pdf/5964B9371 ... /52729.pdf

Unfortunately Entomoneis reimeri sp. does not seem to be a match, so the search goes on.

Note: Hope to upload image of unknown (to me) diatom later today

Here it is, my guess is that it is a variation of Entomoneis paludosa/Amphiprora paludosa

Feel free to post your own wild guesses!

Planapo 63x/1.4, DIC, 70µm length, stacked in Photoshop, Marine sample, Alboran Sea.

Same diatom, variation is due to the number of images used in the stack.

As the first and only suggestion, I will put mini pumpkin on the maybe/might be list ;)

More seriously ... posting video in the hope of getting more potential IDs
