Not an amoeba?
Not an amoeba?
Hello,
At first glance this 232 µm high specimen from bog water looks like a testate amoeba
However, there are to my knowledge no testacea with a round circumference and a rather clear grainy surface with litte pimples around the fundus. The inner structure seems to form a unit with the shell.
I suspected first a rotatoria similar to Habrotrocha angustcollis, but no match.
Any idea? Something from above water?
Thanks,
Hans

Thanks,
@75RR Yes I'm sure the right direction. Problem is the size and regular shape of my specimen.

Re: Not an amoeba?
Very odd. I'm unaware of any ciliate (vaginicolid, metacystid, etc.) with such a complex lorica.

Re: Not an amoeba?
It is shaped rather like a lobster trap but I suppose the double door entrance could be defensive.

Hello 75RR,
yes lobster trap was my first impression, too, which this photograph shows even more clearly (glycerine and slight polarised light):
Still, the riddle remains!
Cheers,
Hans
