Toxarium undulatum
Toxarium undulatum
.
Plan 40x/0.65, DIC, 430µm length, stacked and stitched in Photoshop, Marine sample, Alboran Sea
Curiously rather greener than most diatoms tend to be.
Image is linked, as it is 2000 pixels wide (for a larger version right click: view image)

Great work!
I quite like this one. Looks a bit irregular for a diatom.

Thanks Wes
I think it is pretending to be a desmid ;)
It is quite unusual - clue is in the species name.I quite like this one. Looks a bit irregular for a diatom.

Interesting. So much like algae. How do you differentiate this diatom from algae?

Thanks thomas.schwarz
Also it is easier to see with a little more magnification.
This is part of one taken with my Planapo 63x a couple of days ago. Unfortunately it would not keep still so I could not get it to stack nicely nor stitch
Partly because I knew what it looked like as it is on the diatom list for my area.So much like algae. How do you differentiate this diatom from algae?

Amazing! That last image really shows the "undulatum" feature very well.

Hi Glen,
great find and great image! This is really a very special diatom!
No need for a 50µ plancton net here...
