ID help on pond critter

#1 Post by Ham » Thu Jun 11, 2020 7:43 am

Viewed under 400x and measured about 60 microns across. It seems to have a single segmented appendage. Thanks in advance!

Looks like a rotifer but a small one for 400x. Hard to tell with one picture.

That would be a yes to Rotifer, though you would need some additional views to identify it.

Forum member's lukem321's rotifer key: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9q5iepgwoed6f ... y.pdf?dl=0

Note: No need to create an account to download from Dropbox.
Just scroll to the bottom of the invitation window and click on 'No thanks, continue to view'
Then press 'download' at top right of screen.

Thanks for the replies and rotifer key. Looks like the genus is Colurella. Thanks again!

One of the best websites for rotifers (if not the best) is Michael Plewka's http://www.plingfactory.de/Science/GruK ... e-TL3.html.
For Colurella: http://www.plingfactory.de/Science/Atla ... rella.html
Maybe your rotifer (but check with additional fotos if possible): http://www.plingfactory.de/Science/Atla ... btusa.html

Best regard
