No personal experience, M, with this seller or product; but it looks like an affordable solution. You'll still need the relay lens:

This seller specializes in camera adapters and might offer advice. For this one, you'd need the T-mount to Olympus adapter:

Thanks PeteM. I actually had messaged both of those sellers asking if those parts were a duplicate of/could be used in place of the OM L phototube, but I did not hear back from one and the other did not address my questions. I can message them again, but maybe someone will have the parts available here.

If you haven't tried the second seller, newhoper, could be they'll be more immediately responsive? I haven't bought from him (her?) but they've offered a wide range for years, usually well documented.

Thank you for those links. I’m in WA State, so I’ll have to ask about shipping and any other costs. The seller mentions pick up, but not shipping.

In the simplest of terms it is for the most part nothing more than a spacer and connector. If you look for the specs of the original tube and compare to the aftermarket versions you should have a winner. Maybe Alan Wood has the specs on his site?

The photo eyepiece will show up on eBay and they go for 75-$100 USD.

It's not hard to convert a cheaper olympus photobox to take a modern dslr: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9093

Kirby, I’ve seen 3.3x, but no 2.5x LD in my recent searches. I will keep looking, it must be one of those infrequently listed parts. Maybe someone here will have one to sell.

I’ve read over the information on Alan Wood’s site, some areas several times. There is a lot of information there. I had previously read the thread attached by Scarodactyl on using the photo box, but read it again. I understood the description better this time, but still am not able to find the parts, other than the photo box. Maybe I am using the wrong search terms.

Best scenario, I would like to find the OEM tube and the necessary relay lens. If a 3D print pattern for the phototube is available, I would try printing one.

I do appreciate the links and helpful information!

Plan to spend at least $125 for an NFK2.5x.

They come up pretty often but if the price is reasonable you have to be quick. According to an advanced search on eBay no less than 13 of them sold since July and the prices were between 50 - 190 USD. Lenses auctioned account for the lower end prices.

You must be diligent when looking for something like this. When I'm in need I watch all day every day and if one comes up that's a bit pricey I let it go as another will surly follow. I can't tell you how many times I've jumped the gun thinking something is "rare" only to find it for much less a week or two later.

I frequently watch eBay and if I catch it in time I will let you know.

This is very good advice - I too have had this exact-same experience but now tend to be quite successful when searching for items. The trick is to be constantly checking and to act quickly, with experience this becomes very effective....

Carl and Kirby, thank you for those price expectations. It helps. Looking in the forum, I see others have purchased alternatives from eBay sellers (newhoper and 66x), so I may try one of their phototube substitutes if I cannot find the OM L.

I sent a price request to York and will post their response when I hear back from them.

Hopefully, this won’t take too many weeks!

There's also the option of using the same 10x eyepiece and shooting with your camera through it if you have a permanent setup. If you have a tripod or copy stand you could get try that. While this adds some extra glass, it also isolates the camera from the scope to reduce vibration and might give you better control of image size. The 2.5x relay lens is ideal for a full frame camera. Your sensor size really wants the lottery-priced 1.67x. The typical price of those could buy you a nice 20mp dedicated C-mount camera.

And for just quick capture, lots of cheap USB and HDMI cameras or just a cell phone holder.

Normal viewing eyepieces will not sit low enough in a bh2 trinoc port, and aren't as well corrected as the photo eyepieces anyway alas.

I have a spare OM adapter I'll sell, but no spare NFK 2.5x photoeyepiece.
$125 plus insured shipping. PM me if you're interested.

The WHK15 eyepieces will sit properly in the recess. Works well for afocal shooting.

I forgot to mention Martin microscope. I priced their photo tube for the Olympus SZ stereo microscope and it's just over $500 if I recall correctly. I will probably be buying one for work at some point. They're great people and offer a money back guarantee. If you don't like it send it back! I like that.

Martin adapters are cool and all but I don't think there's ever a good reason to pay 500 dollars for a third party camera adapter.

Good point on the 15x--relative corrections won't matter much either since the periphery is already cropped off, if one can live with the smaller FoV.

Carl, thank you for the information about the WHK lenses.
Kirby, $500 is a bit much for me, but I’ll look around the Martin site, anyway.

I should be receiving a phototube and relay lens late next week so I’ll almost be ready to connect my camera.

I really appreciate everyone’s help!

I think that's probably true for the hobbyist but for a university it's a cheap alternative to a new microscope or a dedicated camera. For $500 we can take great pics with our Canon T5 that everyone already knows to use.

Traleah,

Let us know how you make out with your system when you get it set up!

I guess I can't complain, since universities not worrying about cost generates a lot of my favorite surplus deals.
