Aeolosoma hemprichi asexual reproduction involves a form of fragmentation known as Paratomy where the daughter fragment develops completely (brain and all ) prior to separation, by contrast architomy the fragmented part then develops the missing anatomy after separation (nematodes). The next two videos show a small time frame of the process, including the on the first one the digestion of a rock through the daughter section.
Slide was prepped 1 day ago, and one single Aeolosoma was found, it was then kept on a humidity chamber and observed 24 hrs later where multiple Aeolosoma were found.

Thank you Don, im finishing up the edit where I was able to film the separation of the two daughter sections. Should be up in a bit

Very interesting! I wish I could do that! Two of me could get more done and I could potentially be immortal? Though I suppose 'daughters' would be separate individuals.

LouiseScot ... Right self cloning would leave me a lot of spare time to do other shores, but if just like Aeolosoma the daughter sections are identical copies,then my clones would probably think the same way I do and clone themselves also :)

Thank you 75RR, I had to observe and follow it for close to two hours to catch the separation.

Ah but we don't have free will - we only think we do! Clones would just go their own way and follow their own destinies! Might be handy for transplants though :lol:

Aeolosoma hemprichi is very easy to keep in culture too. I kept some going for three years in a deep petri dish. Just feed them a little piece of spinach leaf once a week or so, and change the water when there gets to be too much debris left over. I've seen as many as four of them hooked together nose to tail.
