Hi 75', I don't know what this is, but I love the image, especially the 'tail' structure... Masterful my friend.

Thanks mrsonchus
I am not sure either which is why I hid behind the Sub-class Peritrich.
Vorticella is a well known Genus of this Sub-class but I am not sure if it is one.
It does however have a contractile stalk. It is also showing an extra set of cilia at the base, which could indicate it is about to cast off and become a telotroch (free swimming stage)

Yes, but how on earth do you get it to hold still for 22 images?!

Thanks KurtM
The other possibility is that I assumed it was contractible - can't say with certainty that I recall seeing this one contract ...
The cilia at the base were moving while I was setting up the shot - but stopped just as I began. Most probably pinned as I work with very little water.Yes, but how on earth do you get it to hold still for 22 images?!
