I am giving a presentation at a public library to try and get more folks interested in microscopy, I am attaching a couple of the images I am going show in the presentation. I also have a series of movies to show pond organisms, ciliates, rotifers, amoeba etc. I also have a picture that kids took with their cell phones through a basic microscope to show how easy it is to get into microscopy and photomicrography.
I will cover entry level stereo and light microscopes, folding paper scopes (http://www.foldscope.com
) and other methods to begin to look at the micro-universe. I was disappointed with the fold scope, they are cheap, but I think a $15 40X jewelers loupe is clearer and easier to use. I will give my folding scopes away to kids in the audience.
I will show folks some entry level Chinese made stereo and light microscopes from AMmicroscopes, various magnifying loupes, and the folding paper microscopes (http://www.foldscope.com
). I am surprised at how good some of the microscopes for under $300 are.
I am doing my best to try and get more people to take up microscopy as a hobby and perhaps pursue careers in science. Microscopes are also widely used in the beer and winery business - why can't I find a job like that ?
