It's nuts, you could assemble an infinity Nikon system with wider fields and better photography potential for less.

Re: Increase FOV

It'll be interesting to see if you can push it that far. As is if my calculations are right you are pretty close to using the full rated image circle of the better objectives but they can often be pushed a bit further.

Re: Usin Mitutoyo objective on Olympus BHMJ

Olympus bh2 eyepieces apply corrections that are needed for olympus objectives. Mitutoyo objectives need no further corrections so the nfk eyepiece will degrade the image.

It could be. You might have more luck getting them from a known vender like edmund optics. Sometimes they're available used.

Hi, scarodactyle,...you assume a seller is oblivious to the market said seller pitches items for sale in? So said seller , when offering items for sale 'locally, and over seas'...this seller can be silent on 'trap door fees beyond sellers control'? Absolutely. Every country has their own import dut...

Re: Just bought a set of plan objectives

The vendor who locked you ( micropunter) into this cascade of added fees...that vendor should have honestly beforehand noted the added fees. This a total abuse of seller platforms. Nah, this is the buyer paying his taxes, not a fee the seller gets. The seller has no control over what duties the des...

Re: Usin Mitutoyo objective on Olympus BHMJ

To be honest I don't remember exactly how I had it set up--I think I swapped the head to a nikon one for direct projection. Nikon photo eyepieces are neutrally corrected. The Pl 2.5x is common but not very good because it adds aberrations of its own to the image. The later Pl 2.5xa is better, as is ...

Re: Usin Mitutoyo objective on Olympus BHMJ

It works fine, but you'll need tp swap out the olympus eyepieces for nikons or (best) generic 10x/22s, and not use the nfk photo eyepiece. I ended up direct projecting onto aps-c but the tube lens in the illuminator made the extreme corners mushy. You could probably use a Nikon photo eyepiece to get...

In my experience shipping from the US my single biggest source of trouble is UK customs. Very inconsistent, often fail to contact customers about owed duties and just send the package back on the slow boat.

Re: WTB: Wild M8 0.4x auxiliary lens

They are achromats, not plan, though planarity improves as you zoom in.
The reference focal length for an M8 is 100mm, so a 150mm givez 0.67x magnification, 200mm gives 0.5x etc.

Re: Polarization analyzer being used without polarization on the condenser, what would happen?

It might cause issues in some heads if they have e.g. prisms that interact with polarized light. In that case you might want to use a circular polarizer with the wave plate side oriented up.

Re: Leica/Wild: any special advantage in different tube+optic combinations?

It is my understanding that the Wild 404207 eyepiece tube plus 10x/21 photo eyepiece could be substituted by a Leitz Tube TL 160mm plus a Leitz Periplan 10x18 lens ) Mechanically yes, but optically the results would be poor. Wild stereo eyepieces are essentially neutral while Wild/Leitz compound ey...

I wouldn't expect the olympus objectives to be so far off spec. Even the generic uplanapo seems like it shouldn't be that far off, I am pretty sure they are meant as a drop in replacement for an Olympus. Did you make sure the tube lens is focused at infinity?

In extreme macro and micro we are always near to the diffraction limit relatively speaking, not much we can do about that (nothing at all past a point). But we know diffraction blurs things, so by subtracting a blurred version of your image from the image you can partially reverse it. It seems dumb ...

Re: Any experience with Leica Planapo 1x for their stereos?

All of the 65mm thread 1x objectives have the same effective focal length (80mm). The 50mm and 60mm threaded ones (m8, mz6, m3 etc) have a focal length of 100mm. But since they're complex multielement lenses there is a lot of room to vary working distance.

Re: Why a 50x OIL objective?

40x/1.4s and similar are obvious enough, 50x/0.90 presumably gives a wider FoV and higher dof to act as a finder for a 100x/1.40 oil objective without having to remove the oil.

Re: Question about UM/FMPLF and BD-type objectives in R-DIC/DF

You could sort of do darkfield without a bd objective by applying a ring light to the end of the objective, but that is involved and will likely affect working distance at least. Darkfield is nice but DIC can give a similar effect if tuned right.

In my opinion, don't purchase Nikon SMZ-10,too old. Age is a concern but when they're in good condition they are really good. They show their age a bit with doming at lower mags and more limited fov (22 or 23mm fn). The trinocular head is a lot nicer than an intermediate attachment in many contexts....
