Re: Parfocal shims
At one point I needed some and found some brass shims with the appropriate inner diameter on some hardware outlet or other, maybe McMaster. It is worth checking.

Re: Advice on buying Stereo Microscope
The m1 is an ultrabasic student scope. No way to change the magnification aside from changing thr main objective. I would not bother with one, if you want a long working distance microscope a nikon smz-1 or smz-2b will cost similarly and have better functionality, or you can spend a bit more ans get...

Re: Help with model of Southern Precision Instrument Microscope
SPI is (was?) a whitebox importer, no collectible value. It looks to be missing one eyepiece and some camera hardware (which is fine because you'd need to replace it anyway). It is probably a solid starter scope if it powers on and thr insides aren't moldy or hazy.

Re: Buying 3rd Party Eyepieces for stereo scope
Most stereos have at most minor correctiona done in the eyepieces, so that part of compatibility is less important. You'd want to be sure your scope takes standard 30mm stereo eyepieces--any recent mid to high end one will (unless you get one following Meiji's in hoise 30.5mm standard) but these low...

Re: PZO DIC on a BHT microscope, possible?
In adapting a Nikon labiphit head to a BH2 Olympus body the Nikon head actually needed to sit higher than the bottom of the olympus dovetail to keep the focus position in the eyepieces about the same, so the extra space of a mechanical adapter was actually helpful.

Re: Taking pictures with a stereo scope
If you want to focus stack just be aware the image will move horizontally as you focus in, that's just as it should be. These basic ones with one or two fixed mags are cheap and basic, but you may be surprised by what a good image it produces. I tried a similar one a while back at a sales office and...

Re: what is a 1x objective ?
Remember that '1x' is just relative to the field number, and in a microscope the image will always be further magnified (either by the eyepieces or from the small camera sensor to a large monitor.) A few sellers might label a flat shield as a '1x' auxiliary objective (since it does not change the ma...

Re: Using a pair of cameras with a stereo microscope
If dual viewing for video is the goal there are double photo attachments available for some stereo microscopes, including the Nikon SMZ line and the Wild/Leica m series (the latter being surgical beamsplitters). That would probably be the most convenient method for video, though not the cheapest.

Re: Using a pair of cameras with a stereo microscope
I have mixed feelings about the synthetic stereos. Sometimes they're great but thry really son't give the same effect as looking through a real stereo microscope does. The smz-10 is nice for this reason, but aside from it coming up as an idea I have never seen anyone actually do much of it--the feat...

Re: Using a pair of cameras with a stereo microscope
Yeah, the smz-10 is the practical way to do this (I think there was an old Olympus SZ series which had a similar feature but I don't know which one). It isn't the best way to take kacro photos but it isn't the worst either--the famed (in the gem field) Photoatlas of Gem Inclusions series was photogr...

Re: wanted Stereo Microscope for electronic work
I just put this one up on eBay starting at 99 cents. It may be more of a pain to find a Meiji boomstand holder (84ish mm rather than standard 76mm) and you'd also want to get a 0.5x objective for it for electronics work, but it is a nice basic scope from a great brand and it may end very cheap, I ju...

Re: Very bad image quality when using polarizers on a microscope, why?
I don't think they put much effort into mitigating that issue beyond putting a quarter wave plate above the analyzer to depolarize the light before it interacts with any flat surfaces. It might be worth trying with an appropriately oriented circular polarizer for your analyzer. I don't think this is...

If Jena corrections are similar to Zeiss west objectives missing the eyepiece is likely to cause some noticeable trouble, though if you only capture the very center of the field of view it may matter less.

Low strain glass only matters to polarized light, so unpolarized light doesn't really care either way. It should be fine in that respect.

Software wise helicon and zerene are kind of the big two if you don't mind paying for it, and either should give good results. Both have good free trials so it should be easy to try them out and compare results. In-camera should have some big advantages but it may also reduce your level of control o...

Re: Swift Achromat vs Nikon Fluor
To me the improvement in color correction looks pretty dramatic, and definitely makes for much nicer photos. I suppose that suggests the swift system is neither non-correcting or at least weakly correcting, at least on CA.

Re: Optical Quality of inexpensive objectives
Objectives have specs beyond their magnification and numerical aperture. When you start getting into better color correction, wider field number or even just better planarity prices go up even on generic objectives. On the low end many of these cheap third party ones are surprisingly good, especiall...

If your goal is to look at things or take still photos you can get much better results for a lot less money, just with a bit less glitz. They do make certsin types of video and 3D modeling work a lot easier.

Re: Has anyone ever seen a digital microscope like this before?
They are neat scopes with a few extremely clever software/optical tricks (like extremely fast stacking) but they do suffer in terms of absolute resolution. Pretty much the only major drawback, that and the price of course. The strong reliance on specific software will make them an unlikely target fo...

Re: Does anyone know what microscope she is using?
If you're asking 'can we identify which microscope was used to take a photo' the answer is no. In broad strokes I can say it looks like a low magnification image so if it was taken on a microscope it was likely a stereo microscope, probably with a reducing lens. But that's guesswork, since there isn...

Ah, I misunderstood, thought you mentioned extreme corners on direct projection underperforming. With that in mind I definitely don't know what's going on. I'd think maybe the Konika happened to interact particularly well with the SC eyepiece and not with the OEM, but that wouldn't explain why it do...

Re: 7X-45X Dual Lit 6W LED Trinocular Stereo
This is a typical problem. These cameras have extremely tiny sensors, and even with a 0.5x reduction lens you get an enormous crop factor. If you don't have a 0.5x adapter it will improve things dramatically, to the point that it's usable (though perhaps annoying).
