Re: Determining the back focal plane of an objective
The method described by Paolo Pozzi in the thread below is the best I've found: https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_there_a_rule_of_thumb_to_determine_the_back_focal_plane_of_objective_lens I've used it to measure the location of the back focal plane of a bunch of Nikon MPlan objectives, as I wante...

Re: Curious Nikon PlanApo 40X objective
I think 40x oil objectives are a pleasure to use, not only as a companion to 100x objectives, but also as an optically superior and much less finicky alternative to 40x 0.95 dry objectives. That said, I've never felt the need to buy this older-generation CF planapo (that never got an updated CFN ver...

The CFN 4x in particular should give an really clean image when used properly. It does seem like something is off.

5x eyepieces are a bad idea for visual use. They cover the same real field of view as 10x eyepieces, but shrinks it down to a much smaller apparent field of view. Like looking down a roll of toilet paper. A pair of the good and cheap 10x/22 would be a better option.

Re: Thoughts on these microscopes for sale on Facebook appreciated
Then why does one condenser position say 'DIC'?
I'm certainly not an expert on Leica scopes of this era.
Edit: the one mounted on the scope is of course a Hoffman condenser. I'm referring to the one mounted to the column on the table, which looks like associated with the Zeiss eyepieces.

Sorry I haven't read everything in detail. But have you thought about the position of the interference fringe relative to the back focal plane of your objectives? I've measured the location of the BFPs of some of the objectives for which your prisms were made. The data is here: https://www.photomacr...

Re: Help: has anyone ever used Olympus DCW Darkfield condenser?
Your DF condenser should be a mirror/reflectingcondenser of some type. Perhaps Viktor knows which for sure. The degree of ca produced in high N.A. DF condensers is from very low to none. Paraboloids have a small amount, spherical too but cardioids, none. ... I did some checking and the BH2-DCW cond...

I got my kit from Newgate Simms several years ago, before Brexit. But I can't find it for sale at the moment. It has definately gone in and out of availability many times of the years. I don't think it is critical to get that exact kit. Many skilled microscopists have had good sucess using various b...

Re: Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
I've fixed the collar on a very similar Nikon CFN Planapo 40x 0.95. You just loosen the screws, which releases the rotating ring. Then you can clean and lubricate the mating surfaces. I don't think they are locked in place, but maybe add a tiny drop of acetone on each screw just in case. Although in...

Totally understand that. I have a very fancy motorized Nikon Diaphot 300 with DIC and fluorescence (motorized stage, shutters and LEP mac2002 controllers from Ludl). The plan is that someday I'll get it to work with micro controller. But it's a bit daunting process to get everything setup, so it's b...

Re: Nikon DIC Turret Objectives
DIC marked Mplans are guaranteed to be strain free, but are otherwise identical to regular Mplans. Very few of the objectives I've tried with DIC have suffered from strain, so I would think that virtually all regular Mplans will perform perfectly fine with these prisms.

Thilo Immel has a compete Dialux 22 with ICT. A bit pricy at €4950. But I'm afraid it won't be easy or cheap to find a ICT set for your scope.

If you search for 'Leitz condenser numerical aperture site:microbehunter.com' (without the apostrophes) on Google you'll get much more relevant hits.
