I dragged a plankton net for 5 minutes in Shinnecock Bay, Long Island and was surprised with variety of my catch!

What do the colors in a polarized image really mean? I've never seen an interpretation. Don, do a bit of research on mineral birefringence. e.g., https://sites.und.edu/dexter.perkins/opticalmin/birefringence.htm Thanks guys. thanks again everyone. here are my last pics from this shoot (step away from the microscope!), its interesting how the details change with the different lighting. You can see more detail without polarization. And you add some interesting color/texture with some side light from a halogen illuminator....

Sand Grains

Inspired by heyitsmedusty's post on photographing micrometeorites, and while waiting for my magnet to arrive in the mail, I shot a few quartz sand grains from the beach (4 in polarized light) to practice my stacking skills. I know I will have more trouble with micrometeorites as they will be opaque....

Re: How to mount canon dslr camera to Bausch and Lomb sz7?

Hi, I have the older style B&L trinocular camera port with the threaded tube connected to an NDPL adapter to a Canon APS-C mirrorless camera and I like it; here are a couple of my posts to see the quality. https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7556&p=66196#p66196 https:/...

Re: Canon Mirroless Adapter

Check if the canon adapter unscrews from your microscope adapter. If it does, I think this should work.

Re: More Crystals

Thanks mineral rob. I didn't have much luck with the initial mix of ethanol, water alanine and glutamine. I then added some citric acid powder/crystals and let the slides sit near a sunny window. I got some nice results while the mixture was sticky wet with only initial crystallization sites. I'm le...

More Crystals

After seeing a recent post by Rob Beardon, I went out and bought the Everclear and amino acids. Then I drank all the Everclear and forgot what I was planning to do.

But i did have some success. Here are a few I liked. Cheers!

Re: Acheiving parfocal direct projection (APS-C) on the Wild M420

hi sreynolds: yes, i stacked a number of pics using HeliconFocus. It works well and is easy to use.

The Wild macroscope does have an iris that can increase the DOF at some expense of resolution. These were taken with the iris wide open I think.

more citric acid crystals

Inspired by Rob Berden's recent post, I tried melting citric and ascorbic acid crystals separately. I had good luck with the citric but trouble getting a clear melt with ascorbic. I then mixed the 2 and may have success but I will have to wait to see. I liked this citric acid pic. HNY to all!

Hi all. Has anyone ever heard of or built an adapter that would allow a B&L StereoZoom pod to be mounted on an AO StereoStar stand? Thanks.

Re: Acheiving parfocal direct projection (APS-C) on the Wild M420

I recently purchased a Wild M420 and Scarodactyl informed me that it was even easier to attach my Canon M50 mirrorless APS-C camera to the existing photo tube than that described here for a DSLR. That because the sensor is closer to the front of the camera. All I needed were the following. Both inex...

These Balplans sound very interesting. I noticed the strong similarity of the stand with my SZ7 R Stand, which seems very nicely designed and built. I also noticed that many of the Balplans on eBay are missing their condenser, I wondered why that was so. Cheers!

Well I had some success I think, but I really couldn't recognize the concentric rings per Phil's guidance. I'm not sure if I was focusing the telescope at the right level, but I did move it up and down. Probably there but I just didn't see them. I pushed ahead anyway by adjusting the field diaphragm...
