Re: Questions about Zeiss objectives on a Olympus microscope

Thanks for the answers. I will save my money then. It is absolutely not worth getting a Neofluar Ph3 if it is not going going to perform as intented. I already have a Plan Achro Ph3 for the Nikon. It is a pi ty, the objectives are almost new and well-priced. Olive oil has a refractive index of ~1.48...

Questions about Zeiss objectives on a Olympus microscope

Hello, I have been offered a couple of objectives, for what I think is a good price. I have two stands, a Nikon E400 and an Olympus CX41 (w. epi fluroescence). I have been offered to buy the following: Zeiss Plan-NEOFLUAR 100x/1.30 oil Ph3 Phase Contrast Objective (for a lot less than in the above l...

Re: Questions about my new CX40 w. epifluorescence

Ok, so I thought I should give you guys the result of my findings. I measured the UV-Vis spectrum from the lamp, both the "unfiltered" excitation-light, as well as the filtered light (green) that passed through the cube. There is absolutely nil, zero of an UV-component in the excitation light. This ...

Re: Questions about my new CX40 w. epifluorescence

Good thoughts and points! I should have checked the instrument more carefully. Perhaps I will bring a spectrometer from work to pick up an emmission spectrum through the binoculars. I'm usually a safety guy, that's why I read the manual so carefully. But things do get lost and compromised, even if i...

Re: Questions about my new CX40 w. epifluorescence

According to the manual, there is a UV filter in the lamphouse itself, so there should be no risk whatsoever in exposing yourself to UV. It is safe to pop up the hatch to insert ND-filters and the like. But I agree that the Hg-burner is perhaps that well suited for the task. I was excited when I fou...

Questions about my new CX40 w. epifluorescence

Hello forum, This week I managed to buy my 3rd microscope, a CX40 in pristine condition w. 5 plans, phase-contrast and a fluorescence illuminator(!). The epi-fluorescence was really the reason why I pulled the trigger (and the price) since I have very similar option in terms of features (Nikon E400)...

Re: Nikon E400 w. trinocular head - What camera solution?

I messaged the seller on eBay (asking about the PA1-12A adapter) and got the following reply: "Yes you can use by itself. I prefer to use one of my ocular lens such as the common 10x WD but other lenses will work.I stay away from the preferred 2.5x lens because the image is smaller. You need to blow...

Re: Nikon E400 w. trinocular head - What camera solution?

Hi there, I fiddled around a bit with the microscope but nothing serious. The c-mount relay lens is clearly not of very good quality, as the image is super-soft in the edges (how difficult can it be to manufacture a decent relay lens??). So now I'm tempted to go with the PA1-12A + 2.5 PLI suggested ...

Re: Nikon E400 w. trinocular head - What camera solution?

I just checked and I noticed I have one of these tubes on hand (the tall one on your scope I mean). It is different from the diagram I linked, basically combining the y-tv and v-t in that diagram into one tube. It looks to have a 30mm eyepiece hole in the top plus a 42mm ID. Check yours to see if t...

Hello, according to the last link the adapter in my picture is called a Nikon V-T tube and does not any optics.

Nikon E400 w. trinocular head - What camera solution?

Hi there, After a bit of a break from the microscope hobby, I recently acquired a more modern (than my previous S-Ke) Nikon microscope, a E400 with a trinocular head, a 4x and 10x, 40x, 100x Plan phase contrast objectives. I also added a bargain 20x Plan APO, it seemed like a sensible investment. Th...

Re: C-mount OMAX camera on binocular Zeiss standard EPI microscope

Hello again, I just wanted to send you an update on the progress. I was out of work for a while, and did not manage to finish this project until now. In the end, I decided to purchase the Motic afocal adaptor from Ted Pella to try and improve the problems with CA. But the result with the Motic adapt...

XY-table for Zeiss standard inverted metallurgical

Dear forum, After some inactivity I am back with some more questions. In my previous thread, I was trying to find a way use an old Zeiss metallurgical stand for a classroom demo. Got some great input from the forum people! (http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7372) http...

Long WD-objectives (160 mm) for Zeiss standard stand

I work at a Science Education Center in Sweden. As I wrote in a previous thread (se below ) I wanted a metallurgical microscope to show some microfabricated devices in a school program with a "build your own computer"-theme for 10-13 year olds. I posted a thread previously about the camera system, a...

Re: Nikon S-Ke with lots of accessories - A humbling experience, help needed

Your Interference Phase Contrast unit is not very rare, but interesting and may be desirable for some microscopists. It is used for transmitted light microscopy only (won't work for epi or reflected light). It is designed to provide phase contrast for ordinary brightfield objectives. The IPC unit c...

Re: Nikon S-Ke with lots of accessories - A humbling experience, help needed

First off, thanks for all your input! I will try to work my way through this, piece by piece as suggested. My main problem is that my 1-year old is sleeping in the room with the microscope at night, so I only have 1-2 hrs during the day to work with it. Looks like fungus, while normally a problem on...

Nikon S-Ke with lots of accessories - A humbling experience, help needed

Dear forum, I recently posted some questions regarding a microscope at work. I got fantastic responses and I figure now is the time to get my "home" Microscope, the Nikon S-Ke flying and fixed up properly. I will try and put questions in where I can. I bought this whole lot some years ago at a photo...

Re: C-mount OMAX camera on binocular Zeiss standard EPI microscope

Thanks again for good advice ya'll. This place is amazing! I have a bigger project with a Nikon L-Ke (my home microscope), and I am already looking forward to get input on that. That lens is only in a 12mm mount, and is rated '720p' so I doubt it would have the covering power, or the resolution, to ...

Re: C-mount OMAX camera on binocular Zeiss standard EPI microscope

I suspect that what you saw at the University may have been an upright "biological" microscope. With trans-illumination, that is, light from the lamp, through the condenser, passes through the specimen. To look at microchips, you need epi-illumination. To clarify, the grey microscope mentioned abov...

Wow, What a great deal of input, I guess I have to build my own adapter. Personally, I am not very skilled, but I have a couple of colleagues who could probably help out. Regarding your input, All you really need is a 12mm lens and whatever you can 'cobble together' for the mechanical side. Learn fr...

C-mount OMAX camera on binocular Zeiss standard EPI microscope

Dear forum, I'm posting for the first time here (and certainly a beginner). Long story short, I work at a Science Education Center in Sweden. We have a ton of conventional compound microscopes that we use in our activities, but until recently lacked a microscope with EPI illumination. In this partic...
