Re: WTB AO 1031 In-base Illuminator
I have one in good shape, but it's missing the lamp and lamp socket.I figure it's unlikely you have the lamp socket, but if there's a chance to get parts I can't use to someone who can, I figure it's worth mentioning. I have had a couple of them, but if you have a 1036A it is pretty easy to convert ...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a short focal length planoconvex lens like you would see for an aux lens mounted at the bottom of the condenser (plano toward condenser, convex toward light source) should correct that, yes?

The adjustability of the tubelength would be handy with a variety of objectives, can't imagine what that would be like to use such a mix-and-match setup though. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: searching for parts for 1916 Spencer monocular no. 15
Hello. I'm looking for a source of parts for a 1916 Spencer Buffalo Monocular No. 15 (I think) microscope. More specifically a working turret or nosepiece. I was going to repair what I have, but alignment turned out to be a problem. I really just need the detent spring. I think that's the correct t...

Any idea what the plant is or have any images of the plant that would show identifiable traits? "Broadleaf" and "grass" don't usually go together, so I'm curious what the sample is.

Re: WTB AO Spencer 60x Dry Objective Cat#122
AO objectives labelled as C (C=coated) are for 160mm TL systems. Have you considered adding a pair of 15x eyepieces? Your 40x then gets you to 60x.

Re: American Optical Series 15
I stumbled across an unexpected opportunity and found myself the owner of a Spencer 43x APO. This is now the second apochromat I own, the other being a very similar Leitz 40x apo. I am still in the very earliest stages of using it, so cannot say much other than that it appears to be in good shape. I...

Re: American Optical Series 15
I was asked privately what the label said and if I typically left them in place. This particular label goes along with a bit of engraving on the microscope, so removing the label doesn't "fix" the etching/scratching/marring/engraving. Typically, when they're just routine "This is property of XYZ ins...

Pics tend to help move things. I've got some Leitz finite objectives that don't have a body...Sure Squintsalot wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 3:35 pmYou were right! But I had to buy the POS microscope it was attached to!

Well that now makes sense, thank you! It also helps explains why it it was it with a Spencer scope.

S.L. Co. 6x eyepiece
If you read the title, you know about as much about it as I do.
This eyepiece came with some other microscopy equipment, but obviously doesn't belong. It's 20.90mm or about 13/16" in diameter.
Who knows or has a good guess as to what this goes to?

I like having a 20x, so I removed the 97x oil and put one in. I'm not sure if there's some magic incantation I am missing in my stacking tools, but non-plan objectives are so much harder to stack and seem to require more images at finer distances. 22 images at 2um focus. That's an interesting setup, but how does it perform?
I presume the small diameter knobs just above the stage control focus, but what do the larger knobs toward the base do? Perhaps fine focus? Light intensity?

Re: Whats the best way to look at an awkward object using the 40x lens without damaging it
Ideally you'd want to use objectives designed for use without a coverslip. Working distances are typically small with a 40x objective, often around 0.5mm. You could try placing it on a slide and getting it centered, but you'll probably need to illuminate it from the side, which at that working dista...

The AO Sixty are decent instruments, pretty much the same optics as one would find in a 10 or 20, the 34mm parfocal infinity objectives. Not as flexible as a 10, but they're usually a lot more affordable. Did you get one with a monocular or a bino head? I've handled both and while a monocular is per...

The only glass I've seen which yellows is stuff that was made with arsenic which can yellow from exposure as you've mentioned, but I believe the use of arsenic dropped off around WW2.
