do you have the catalog number for the objective. As pointed out, likely a Modulation contrast objective. also called LMC. Leica Modulcation Contrast. ala Hoffman.

Re: how scared should I be of mercury lamps

All comments listed are valid, One point of caution would be not to leave the lamp in the scope or lamp house durng transport. Also do not touch the envelop of the lamp. It is not glass, and the oils from your fingers will weaken the envelop during the periods of the lamp in operation. That could le...

Re: What happened to the Leica DMLB?

Interesting writeup Pete. I know you touched on some of these points in your brands PDF—which by the way was a huge help. It's still odd to me that there isn't even one reference to the DMLB model anywhere on the official Leica website. I agree with you about the move to electronic automation being...

Re: Leica DMRB- which lenses and prisms for DIC

As Pete M pointed out, the Condenser Prism and Objective Prism in this scope are for the 40x and 100x objective. I too am curious what objectives are on this scope, They don't appear to be Leica objectives. I don't recall there ever being black barrels on any Leica objectives except for the very low...

The Gold Standard for specimens that demonstrate resolving capabilities is the Pluerosigma diatom. It is very easy to see the impact of reducing the NA of the objective by closing the condenser.

Re: Averaging condenser and objective numerical aperture when predicting resolution

These were the images I wanted to share in my earlier post. I think they can help visualize the objective NA/Condenser NA relationship. Unfortunately it does not show what happens to working distance as the NA increases. But you can see the change in tne Angular Aperture Angle increasing as the NA i...

Re: GF Planachromat infinity optics for Jenamed microscope

Frequently a 1x compound objective will need a contrast cap, especially for reflected light applications. A polarizer is placed in the light path, and the contrast cap is mounted over the front of the objective. It is essentially a 1/4 wave plate that can be rotated for the best contrast as you obse...

Re: Field number vs. field stop diameter in "negative" eyepieces

This may be QWERTY vs. Dvorak keyboards. Having gotten used to field numbers, FN certainly eems simple enough. Use a 10x/22 eyepiece and I expect to see a 22mm wide field with a 1x stereo objective and a 2.2mm field with a 10x compound objective. Put a ruler or micrometer slide down and take a look...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

F.N. is an arbitrary system. It is a code system stamped on some eyepieces, only some. There seems to be a begrudging compliance on the part of manufactuers. Maybe there is a reason? In existence, and you can look them up on ebay right now and find at least some of these, so they sre pretty common ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

I am now beginning to see how ts has been confusing. Scarodacyl’s is a fair description of what happens in a microscope system. If one were to take the eyepiece out of the system, with an infinity objective, with a bright enough light source the image would be projected to the ceiling. The magnifica...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

I am trying to do the math and it doesn't work for me. IF you used a 1x objective with a 16mm FN , 15x eyepiece and put a stage micrometer in place, you would observe a 16mm FOV at 15x. If you put used the same objecive with a 10x/20mm FN, you would see a 20mm FOV at 10x. The object would appear to ...

When I reference the FN, I am referring to the field stop diameter of the eyepiece. If you had a 1x objective, with a FN eyepiece of 20mm, you would be able to observe a stage micrometer field of 20mm, if the objective was a 2x, the sample are viewed would be 10mm. It is just as important that the r...

Re: How to use the AO10 Teaching Head

If you unscrew the end of the pointer control, it looks like it has a flat headed screw slot on the very end, but that is for rotating the bulb inside the shaft for maximum intensity and homogeneity. You will gain access to the base of the pointer bulb. Take care not to lose the spring that contacts...

Re: WTB: 15X 184 eyepieces & trinoc phototube for AO10

I have a pair of 182 15x eyepiecesin New condition. Can't remember which product line they originated in, but keep in mind the eyepieces for the Series 10 were uncompensated and the usual max FD was 18mm. These would probably work with out any problem. If interested make a reasonable offer.
