Re: Older viewing heads on newer bodies
Don’t think you can. As PeteM states, to my understanding there is a required correcting “tube lens” in the head of an Olympus infinity system, the tube lens is missing in the older heads.

Re: Higher power eyepieces beyond 10x?
Reminder: to match the required optical correction of your objectives eyepieces of the same brand and era are required, particularly if you are using a scope of 160 or 170 tube length. For the infinity tube length scopes this requirement may be less strict. I’m using (relative rare) Olympus WHK 12.5...

Re: Adding an brightfield objective..20x or 25x?
Your add on objective has to work in your system : have corrections that are equivalent to other objectives in your existing system, so I can't think of an instance where a company made both in the same optical family. You will have the choice of one or the other. Meaning: you require an objective ...

You just opined: ' not the sellers problem'...well then my sense is : why should I gamble with spending monies in a market where: 'sellers have no control/ no idea of final costs of items they market for sale? I think what you described were not customs fees, but add ons on the seller's end which s...

Re: WTB: Olympus BH2-AN Analyser for DIC
Your research may be incomplete: Please look at my earlier link to the Alan Wood site. 1) My BH2 (Long barrel ) DIC set has a BH2-NA analyser, positioned below the Bino/Trino. 2) You do not require the BH2-AN: the 2nd DIC polariser is part of the BH2-NC condensor. 3) The BH2 DIC set is not designed ...

Re: Importing Items From Europe to US
Ehhh, my position is the BUYER should check to custom etc requirements of his own country.
As a seller it is impossible to know / research all different country requirements.
This is wat eB… does for you (at a price) and I encountered several case where even they were in error.

If you can find a clone from a Chinese source, that may be your best option. Re: AO 10 Arrived today - trying to ID everything to ask intelligent questions about upgrading
Wow excellent value for money. Consider using what you have now before investing in upgrades. I worked with a simple Olympus E-type bino for 40 years before upgrading to plan and later Apo objectives. Most of my observation is pond samples related and simple achromats (with relative large depth of f...

Re: What is the diference beetween a Splan Apo and Neo Splan NIC??
Looks like you have the standard Trino head not the wide version: so no advantage in the wider view when switching from DPlan to SPlan objectives. Looks like you have the SC flip top condensor: so max useful objective NA is in the 0.9-1.0 range, and no immersion capability: SPlanApo’s starting with ...

Re: What is the diference beetween a Splan Apo and Neo Splan NIC??
I found that the best image quality you will achieve is with SPlan Apo's. Please be informed the “front lens - to - sample” distance of the Olympus SPlanApo series is (very) short (starting with the 20*), so a bit risky in beginners hands. I love my 20* SPlanApo (actually have 2) but use it most of...

Naturally: with proper technique and practice you can use your higher Mag. and NA objectives: don’t see above discussion is helpful to a beginner.

When (ever, not that often see above) using a high NA or 100* oiled objective with a wet sample mount: I often use a number 0 [correction # 1] cover glass replacing the standard (Zeiss) 1.5 to compensate for the sample thickness. As stated by Apo above when moving into the extreme magnification / la...

Yes, I sampled from under the beginning ice cover last week (both free water and bottom samples): 5 different Daphnia species, rotifer, protists, several green algae and some Desmids (the latter will not last very long in your culture though).

Apo, you are right the 100* adds to the experience. But, in my personal experience when using the 100* oil objective on pond sample slides, the coverglass often moves when scanning the slide. And when using the 100* I often want to switch back to a lower enlargement, requiring a 40* or 50* oil, (an...

Yep, forgot to mention the obvious: you have to remove the dovetail slider. Note: the screw heads may look like Philips, but are actually JIS (Japan Industry Standard), as the screws are often stuck: you will ruin the heads when using a Philips screwdriver. In addition some heat (soldering iron) app...
