Amazing Videos Tom!!!!! unreal... I have some video, still not processed, of something like a microbe cuttlefish/octopus. Interesting to know if it was this Rotifer Stephanocerus. Truly amazing view into the jungle in the jar..... Congratulation on your honorable mention. I think that these creature...

Wow... grasshopper is learning. Thank you!!! Found the dealcorner price for BH2-NA: $1500.... I will try to tone down the buy sell topic for this subject (optics), but in any case the price point is pertinent. I bought the eBay nic set, thanks again Tom. ...shipping to mom in Chicago then to me in A...

Re: Different ways to set up DIC (NIC) on BH-2 Microscopes
Yes, there is some playing around to do.... ...phase contrast is not in the cards, but I definitely will get the dark field stop for the BH2 UCD, and lots of bright field. Here is where I am stuck currently on the analyser purchase (part BH2-NA). There seems to be a very similar part for Phase Contr...

Re: Different ways to set up DIC (NIC) on BH-2 Microscopes
Thanks Pete. So, I have not worked at all with color filters (or maybe just a bit). Assuming a standard BH-2 BHS with a BH2-UCD Condenser: * would I need to buy something to hold this filter? * if no, would there be something already there to hold it between the light source and the bottom of the BH...

Re: Different ways to set up DIC (NIC) on BH-2 Microscopes
OK so I think it is clear that the S Plan objectives are the intended ones, although Charles Krebs consistently prefers the S Plan Apo objectives (http://www.krebsmicro.com/microsetup2/ see notes at end) Also unless anyone disagrees, it does appear the the BH2-UCD condenser does add flexibility over...

Re: Different ways to set up DIC (NIC) on BH-2 Microscopes
Thanks friend. So the thing that is killing me.... ...about flexibility, it would be awesome if I could be using my plain vanilla S Plan objectives. say 20x, brightfield, and just slide the analyser, twist the condenser and bam, DIC, decide I need a darkfield, and only two moves, slide DIC the analy...

Different ways to set up DIC (NIC) on BH-2 Microscopes
Hello friends, Soon I will have my first Olympus Microscope: BH-2 BHS. I am not immediately interested in Phase Contrast, but I would like to set up DIC (NIC) as resources allow. Straight off the bat, it seems there are two approaches to the NIC Condenser. UDC as shown here: https://www.photomacrogr...

Good place to buy a microscope in Austria
I am looking for a good place to buy a used microscope for microbehunting in Austria or Germany that fulfills these criteria: 1) Top four brand (Olympus, Nikon, Leica, Zeiss) 2) Can pay 2 or 3 thousand dollars and have a great trinocular/USB microscope (albeit without fancy filters or contrast) 3) O...

Oh... one more question..
Why "metalurgical"? Is that a reference to a rotating stage and polarization?

Olympus BH2 BHS UMA Nomarski DIC Metallurgical Microscope
Hello friends, In hopes of softening buyer's remorse, I was hoping for some feedback on this resent purchase. I know with only one photo, there is some risk. My goal is to use it for microbe hunting. I have been without a microscope for about 3 m9nths after returning my optica 290 TB. It had some de...

Inverted microscopes cant do this....
Hello friends, I would like an affordable DIC microscope and a lot of (all of?) the ones under 4000 euro on ebay are inverted. So i can imagine that for very deep fields, like cell cultures/pitri dishes/ bottles of fluid an inverted microscope is required. So riddle me this, what can a non inverted ...

Re: There is DIC, then there is DIC
When an objective is marked "DIC" it's much like being marked "POL" (e.g suitable for polarization). It usually just indicates that the objective is optically clear enough not to be troubled by having prisms and polarizers in line - not that it produces a DIC image on its own. With better objective...

Re: There is DIC, then there is DIC
Tom, The E400 is a fine microscope, but I don't believe it has the turret openings for a polarizer and DIC slider. I am a total novice, but I think I have (always) seen the slot that you are referring to. So far I think the answer is a resounding "yes" and "no" )))). Like the universe. With that sa...

Hello friends,
Are there better and worse DIC? If yes what does it depend on? Is the DIC in a Nikon e400 good?
Thanks

Right, so how would you qualify the difference in the resulting images between that from DIC and that from oblique lighting? Is it just me, or do they look quite similar?
