Cover glass thicknes
Leitze Labourlux 11 Pol. Bought second hand. Used for petrology thin sections. The X4 objective does not have a cover glass thickness on it. Would that mean it's zero or at that power it doesn't matter? What effect would cover glass have in this situation on any power? Would using them or not using ...

Re: 50W LEDs
I use 50 watt LED to light up small car parks. If they are decent qua.ity, they will be about 110 ,umens per watt. Your QI lamp won't be close to that. However, I really doubt what you have ordered is actually 50 watts so might still be okay. Heat sink applies. If its 50 watts, ypu will probably nee...

Long working distance
What type of microscope would you call one that has the charasterics of a stereo dissection microscope but with a single objective? I'm wanting large working distance, large focal range, mag up to about x100 max. I've considered a not junk digital. I mainly want to use it to photograph mineral speci...

You can use an isolation training if you like that idea. Doesnt need to be a step down. Isolation trannis have other isolation features. However, they have their fails. They only isolat the device from earth. You will still get an electric shock if you connect to both outputs. Also, I would be surpr...

There is a DIY tutorial online for a technique involving glueing a crystal grain to a needle and rotating it under polarised light. Does anyone know what this technique is called or even better, the tutorial I am looking for?

I have a cheap stereo. The fine focus is too coarse. I'm thinking of an adjustable stage to give me that sub mm adjustment. Does anyone have any ideas on a stage I could source that could be attached to an existing flat surface with modifications?

I am looking for a decent but affordable 10X loupe. Eyepeice, watchmaker type. NOT the folding type. Found a couple but can't find specs. Asco appears to be one contender but apart from the colour, not much info available about their models. Can anyone suggest a site or brand or model?

I am new and I know nothing. I have a zoomable stereo and a Leitz compound. The stereo is great fun, easy to use. It apparently goes from 7 to 45 mag. The focus is too coarse at higher mag but manageable. Maybe one day I can modify it. The advantages are a huge working distance and at lower mag, ver...

Standard slides are easy but I use them for petrology thin sections and they are fragile. I have some 2mm glass which also allows me to cut custom sizes. I like 30 x 75. Now you mention the condenser, I will experiment

Re: Highest power LED suitable for microscope?
There are basically two types of LED arrays. Constant voltage and constant current. I get the feeling you are trying to compare LED to incandescent directly. They are two different types of light source. Bit like comparing fluroescent to incandescent.

Re: Highest power LED suitable for microscope?
You will need a COB style to get 10 watts. Bigclive.com on you tube has a lot of handy led info. If you are using raw LED then you need current limiting. Sounds like you need a better power supply if the voltage at its output is dropping. I use an iron ore lighting transformer (they are being thrown...

Re: Highest power LED suitable for microscope?
Are you looking for a direct replacement or something you can play around and build yourself? Quality LED chips produce about 100 lumens per watt now. You can get chips with a CRI of 97. For quality LED chips, you will need to look outside normal suppliers.

Jb89. Be very interested to hear conclusions. I have identified a couple of UV cure. Viscosity is a bit high at 2000 but found one that is 300 and RI of about 1.53. UV cure. Haven't tried it yet. I like the idea of controlling the rest time before cure to allow the bonding agent to flow very thin. T...
