Re: For Sale: AmScope 4x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 60x Plan Objectives (160/0.17)

Hi all! I just signed up here to check this out. I'm new to using objectives for photography, and wanted to ask if you (or anyone else) have used the 20x+ objectives with a camera (I'm using apsc) or can otherwise comment on the useful field of views. Thanks for your interest, the field of view jum...

Beautiful capture! I had no idea that their internals were so animated. Always assumed they were fairly static. Do you have any tips on finding or preparing slime mold for brightfield? Would love to find some myself

Re: What are your techniques in reducing chromatic aberration when imaging?

Use a good green filter then make the image black and white. An LED that narrowly emits light could presumably have even better effect. Yes, the green filter helps for certain, I use that technique quite a lot with high-dry objectives. Also keep the subject in the center of the field as much as pos...

Re: Diatom Shop experiences

I was wondering if anyone has experience with Diatom Shop (www.diatomshop.com) and specifically their general strew slides. How would you rate the quality? The test slides get good reviews, so I'm curious if the strews are as good but unsorted / un-arranged. I can finally shed some light on this! G...

Re: Need help deciding between Motic BA310E & Panthera CC

What did you end up choosing in the end? I did end up getting the BA310E, which arrived a few weeks ago. Overall, I'm very satisfied. The LED illumination really is plentiful, so I suspect the light split on the Panthera will be great too. I'd love to get some Apo or Fluor objectives in the future,...

Great video! When searching for microbes in aquariums, you can try looking inside the filter. There's all sorts of debris in there that can be host to many microbes.

Re: flickering problems, how do you deal with it?

The way I deal with this is after I've figured out what shutter speeds to avoid, I bump or lower the ISO so that I can use the same exposures without having to deal with the shutter speeds that don't work with my light source. This of course can introduce a bit more noise to the image, but I haven't...

Re: sony cameras

I don't think it's been mentioned here yet, but Sony uses the term EFCS (Electronic Front Curtain Shutter) to refer to this. The ability to turn this ON this feature is very useful for reducing any sort of vibration as others have suggested.

Hi This is exactly what I am after, would you be interested in trading for an Olympus drawing tube? The tube is in excellect condition as far as I can tell. Bought from Japan for about $200 a few years ago. Hi Hakon, I appreciate the offer but I don't have much use for a drawing tube unfortunately....

Reduce color noise in photoshop works well.
Just gave this a try, exactly the kinda tip I was looking for. Thanks a lot!

I'll also give some black and white images a shot with a green filter, as others have suggested.

What are your techniques in reducing chromatic aberration when imaging?

One thing I'm trying to improve is reducing chromatic aberration in my images, so I'd love to hear how everyone else deals with it. - What steps do you take before taking a photo to reduce chromatic aberration? - Are there any particular camera settings that help? - How do you edit afterwards? Thanks!

When considering the performance between these objectives, how much influence does the microscope itself have on the image quality?

E.g. if you did this comparison in reverse by putting both objectives on a Nikon microscope, would the differences be similar?

Shivs, what you're describing is called "oblique Illumination." Since your microscope contains a filter holder, you can create oblique filters fairly easily to consistently reproduce this effect at varying magnifications. Here's some more information on how oblique illumination works: https://www.mi...

Re: Help me choose a mirrorless camera?

The Sony a7s ii can be found around that price range and has amazing low light performance, which could be useful for darkfield. Of course the a7s iii is a step up from that but much pricier. I haven't had direct experience with either of these cameras, but I do see they have silent shutter options....

Before you go out and but a new camera, I'd suggest trying a smartphone mount. It's a cheaper alternative if you already have a smartphone, and some of the latest phones provide stellar images, often with reduced noise and increased sharpness through the phone's in-built processing. If you have a po...
