Re: Which 40x and 4x objectives for Nikon Labophot?
Close and focus on the Kohler iris. There will be coloured edges. LED is the cause not the objective. There are but the colours vary according to the objective. I can almost get rid of the edges when everything is properly aligned, especially with the Plan Apo and Fluor objectives. 100% what I woul...

Re: Which 40x and 4x objectives for Nikon Labophot?
My guesstimate is that the three likeliest problems are: 1) Inability to get both good Kohler illumination and a wide enough image circle. One would expect color fringing at the very edges of the illuminated field, but with that mostly outside the field of view with a proper illumination system, th...

Re: Different Nikon 20/0.75 160 Plan Apos
How your situation with this objective ended? How was the image? Is this objective spring loaded? I sent this message already via pm, but decided to add it here as well in case someone else is interested: I've been pretty happy with the objective. It seems to perform better than the slightly damage...

The CFN objectives produce purple and green fringing, and the Fluor objectives some yellow and blue but it's not nearly as bad.Phill Brown wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 10:14 amIf you like yellow and blue fringing LED is an upgrade.

I believe commercial, although it hasn't been installed very well (just seemed sloppy). There's some flickering on low power, but otherwise it appears to work fine as far as I can tell.

Wrong bulb or LED "upgrade".
Unlikely to be the objectives.
If anyone has photographs taken through these objectives, I would very much like to see how they look.

Re: Which 40x and 4x objectives for Nikon Labophot?
Two of your problems may have more to do with your condenser than the objectives. Thanks, Pete. I have two condensers, the Nikon 1.25 phase condenser and Nikon Abbe 1.25. The field of view seems same with both. I'm pretty happy with my other objectives which include a Nikon Plan Apo 20x and a Fluor...

Re: Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
The entire optical tube retracts as a safety precaution against both front element and slide damage. I have seen 3 reasons for the optical tube to not retract. 1) The spring has been replaced with a solid spacer, stopping the retraction from taking place. This is a deliberate modification and usual...

Shaver oil. it has a thin nozzle for application to seams and the like. The last time I looked into the Nye Hobby kits, they had been discontinued but a phone call to Nye located 7 at a distributor. I use that oil a lot but as Victor says, other light oils will do, or might do. The problem with col...

Re: Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
I've fixed the collar on a very similar Nikon CFN Planapo 40x 0.95. You just loosen the screws, which releases the rotating ring. Then you can clean and lubricate the mating surfaces. I don't think they are locked in place, but maybe add a tiny drop of acetone on each screw just in case. Although i...

Re: Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
^ So far, all my iris objectives work just fine (none becomes stuck again after I released them about 3-6 years ago). Only one objective take some effort to turn but still works. The things about tiny iris leaves is that if you mess them up, they are a huge pain to put back. Yeah, that's something ...

It has been a while since I repaired on of those or similarly constructed. The memory banks are full and in need of advice on how to get them unstuck. Just one thing. That JIS screw that sits in the grip ring looks a bit out of place. I might be wrong but is it an original? I wondered about the scr...

Re: Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
I don’t have the exact objective and don’t remember exactly how I released my objective iris or correction collar. I did it successfully with two objectives and have not destroyed any. I think what I did was either applying 2-3 tiny drops of xylene by micro pipette or heating, then turning by force...

Apochronaut mentions Nye PP269 oil in some other thread concerning a stuck iris, but I couldn't find this oil for sale anywhere. It was also mentioned that lubricating a frozen cover glass adjustment collar can be more risky optics-wise and shouldn't necessarily be done without disassembling the obj...

Nikon Fluor 40x frozen collar + front element
I got this objective from Ebay and it was supposed to be in good working condition, but both the correction collar and the front element are stuck. I was promised a full refund and will get to keep the objective, so now I can try to fix it. Any thoughts on how to start?

Item does not match images in the listing. Seller pays return. Full refund. Seller may offer a partial refund. You don't have to accept. Different Nikon 20/0.75 160 Plan Apos
I bought a Nikon 20x Plan Apo on Ebay, and the listing had images of a Nikon CFN 20x Plan Apo, the one with metal coloured barrel and two knurled rings. However, I received another objective instead (experiencing deja vu as apparently this keeps happening to me). I haven't tested the objective yet, ...

Cleaning collection equipment and keeping samples uncontaminated
How do you clean your jars, nets etc. that you use for collecting and keeping samples from the wild? How do you keep your samples and dispose of ones that are no longer needed? Re: Olympus BX40
To add, the usual place the Nikon fluorescence head breaks is toward the back. It's not too hard to put a sleeve on the back end and then put a UV LED at about the same place where the mercury lamp would be. This is a safer and cheaper way to do some UV photography, though you still have to be care...

Re: Olympus BX40
Is a fully functioning fluorescence scope what you're after? In general, $1500 plus tax & shipping would be the Ebay price for a good BX40 with plan achromats. Plus a bit for the one 40x UPlanFl. You might check Ebay "sold" prices for the going rates. I've got a couple of spare BX40's, and a variet...

Re: I think I need a tutor, OR microscopes for sale
Is your priority microscopy or microscopes? It seems you have a thing for antique/vintage microscopes, but those aren't necessarily that great for microscopy. One essential problem is illumination. Your microscopes seem to have a mirror for this purpose which isn't ideal for achieving even and brigh...
