Re: Rotifer

Very nice videos. The colours (in brightfield) other than the background seem to be spot on, you may be trying to make the background just a little too white, though I agree a yellow tinge can be annoying. I looked up your previous post on your microscope and you seem to be using a 7W, 4000k LED. H...

Beautifull!!
Thank you! It is so incredible what you can find in your pond. Hopefully I can put more effort into my photographs to produce photographs that people can enjoy. Even though it sounds really strange I try not to harm these creatures, so I put them back in the water once done.

Beautiful sharp images!
Thank you! I am going to work on seeing if I can improve my videos further, I enjoy the challenge. The background color for bright field was an effort to get it white and not yellowish but that seems to work now.

Rotifer

Using my Canon 200D and a mid range custom built microscope, I took a video of this rotifer. It is so difficult to get decent videos of micro organisms, getting the color and contrast right. Will I have to invest in finding a second-hand top of the range Olympus to get the results? probably  ...

Re: Nikon Plan 50 160/- Oil Objective

Dale, It's an excellent objective for use with oil - one that ought to be on more Labophots and Optiphots. High numerical aperture, a nice plan view, and a bit more working distance than a 100x. It won't complain about being enlarged to 850x magnification. And the iris is a plus for darkfield imagi...

The "/-" means either with or without coverslip.
Thank you, I will test the objective with a 0.17 coverslip.

Nikon Plan 50 160/- Oil Objective

Hi, I purchased a second hand microscope and one of the objectives was a Nikon Plan 50 0.85 Oil 160/- 230411 JAPAN. It is in excellent condition as you can see, no scratches, but I am not sure what it was designed to be used for as it does not have the cover slip 160/0.17 inscription but 160/- which...

Storage Unit for Cover Slips and Glass Slides

I like to re-use the cover slips and glass slides and found that using a container (a lunch box) with a clip down lid works very well at sealing everything inside the three compartments found inside the lunchbox, including the propyl alcohol. Also use an upside down ice tray that I cut to fit to sto...

Attached a photograph that I took of the Vorticelli apart from the video. Greatly reduced in size but it still captures their magnificence.

A very interesting and a very good quality video. I have never seen so many Vorticelli together. Is this DIC?
Thank you, have a look at my microscope "My Microscope Build" for Dale Carter, it is near the top as I only just joined recently, more like a DIY microscope :D

Colony of Vorticella

Found a colony of Vorticella living on some algae in a container full of crystal clear water inside our vegetable patch. Took this video (much better at 1080p quality if you select it from youtube).

Darkfield and Reinberg filters

Hi, I was trying to find some blank glass disks to use as filters for my microscope that would be cheap, thin and tough enough. I went to a Watchmaker and bought the watch face disks (in my case 32mm diameter) as you can see from the photographs. With these disks I was able to use those round labels...

Re: My Microscope Build

Hi, nice setup! Instead of the prism you could use a beam splitter and combine LED and flash. Have you already used the arduino for stacking? Does it release the camera too? Bob Someone has been posting the lamp and flash combo. Why have a flash though? If the lamp is set to the right intensity and...

Re: My Microscope Build

Hi, basically I have built my own setup to customize the observing and capturing to suit my needs. Cool. But what tools and things should one have in that drawer? And what's in the hollow space left and right of the drawer? These are the important things... :D Yes, all my tools and other objectives...

Hello from Cape Town, South Africa

Hi, my name is Dale, I have spent many hours building a microscope that could take decent photographs and videos. I bought a cheap microscope that was in very poor condition from Bidorbuy and took the challenge of creating something different from it. Two years later I have just that... The study of...

My Microscope Build

Hi, basically I have built my own setup to customize the observing and capturing to suit my needs. I have separated the light source from the microscope to allow more space for a more flexible light source as well as to prevent heat travelling up the microscope and causing evaporation on the slide. ...
