Re: Mitosis Telophase

Thank you, much to learn still, I was thinking more along the lines of schizogony merogony or endodyogeny, but can see now that it's reserve for only parasitic protozoan?

Did you happen to catch the other video I posted?, not sure if it was cytokinesis now.

Thank you Bruce

Im very happy to hear that,How powerful is it normally on epi illumination? haven't gotten to start experimenting with mine yet, had to deal with the "mold problem" I had been considering purchasing a Cas 200 system for my Microstar but instead Im going to tinker with the DIY tube. Rotifer carcass

I've been obserbing this rotifer for a while now, its the same from previous videos, I started to notice the formation of the single cell organism within the its carcass but cannot find a match. Bacterial growth can also be seen around the carcass.Anyone has ever seen this or can point me towards wh...

Death of a Colossus

This morning I went to check the slide I had prepared last night, in which I saw a Notommata viogti, a colossus among Rotifers ( https://youtu.be/HJAbRq2OdoE ) . This one had a giant egg inside of it and so I was hoping to see if it was still there. Much to my surprise I found the decomposing Notomm...

Another way to maintain slides is to.... Get a plastic Tupperware with a lid, put some towel paper on the bottom, get it soaked with water and then put two beer bottle caps ( brownie points if they are from some rare IPA) on top of the paper. On top of the beer bottle caps goes to slide, I wouldn't ...

Re: Light filters

Good morning Greg, can you share which mirror you ended up choosing for this section? Wouldn't that same mirror block the light c...

Re: Immersion Oil Questions

Okay thanks for the replies. Are kimtech wipes good for cleaning the oil off of objectives? I have personally seen the optics in my school deteriorate because of the use of kem wipes on them (or it could be just user error), opinions are mixed even on youtube instructional videos put out by microsc...

Re: Light filters

Greg that is amazing and I thank you for sharing it, This will definitely be my next project, ok so the one inch mirror seats inside the tube below the head, and then there is a second mirror deflecting light back to the objective? also the difusser goes where.? Looking a sketch of epi illumination ...

I was able to rotate through all the objectives an maintain polarization. :)
I guess some samples don't reflect the light like others as in the case with that Stentor.

Re: How can one improve polarization?

Something is wrong. White light is most likely passing the polarizer on the sides causing an oblique mess. Experience says close down the diaphragm any way no matter what the book says. The book is not you and does not have your equipment. So try that. Greg Hi Greg , close the condenser iris or kho...

Yes, I think It was user error, I was lowering the condenser more than I should had.

Re: Immersion Oil Questions

It is very easy to accidentally swing one of the non oil objectives onto the residual oil on top of the slide cover by accident, so its best to clean it and set up another sample. The time spent in doing so is not comparable to the headache of a damaged objective. That being said I have used the non...

Re: How can one improve polarization?

Yep, both are up, the effect can be graded by rotating the lower filter, and is very visible at lower magnifications but use the 40x and it starts to look like oblique mire than polarization which i don't understand, the manual calls for the condenser Iris to be fully open.

How can one improve polarization?

I started to play with the polarizing kit on my Microlux, and notice that at higher magnifications 20x and above the effect is not that noticeable is there a way to improve the polarization effect? Does the condenser need to be as far up as possible what about the iris diaphragm? I keep getting mixe...

Thank you for that Greg, would love to see if you have pictures of the set up. I also wonder if they can be used in conjunction with the polarizing filters to clear the image at higher magnifications. I know I got plenty of room on the Microstar but not on the Microlux to set up some sort of upper i...

When comparing the color temperature of the light on my Microstar IV vs the Microlux IV I noticed that im able to swing in the blue filter that is housed inside the Microstar, which makes it a lot easier on the eyes. The Microlux on the other hand has no blue filter, there is a polarizing filter bel...
