Re: Intermitent lamp issue.

This seems like pretty good evidence against the flicker coming from the illumination. Maybe electrical interference from some other source is affecting the camera directly? You could try taking video with the camera isolated (running on battery with no other cables connected to it) when the proble...

Re: Intermitent lamp issue.

Can you change. your video framerate instead ? This flickering is very well known since decades. Or you could use a DC power supply. if it's an halogen lamp, they work in both AC & DC. (I run mine in DC) Hey ker2x, Thanks for reply. Unfortunately the flicker occurs periodically and at settings that...

Intermitent lamp issue.

Hi all, throwing this out to your collective über knowledge and experiance. Periodically I have lamp issues with my Polyvar. It's an intermittent fault that presents as flicker visible in the camera only, at usually functional FPS, exposure and shutter settings. https://flic.kr/p/2n32Sca Occurrence ...

Re: Leica DM questions

Hey Wabutter thanks for the D prism Info, thats very helpful! Re the Polyvar I have to agree, it produces an extraordinary image. I’ve used a few Leica and Zeiss scopes and compared to the Poly, I would say they have different qualities rather than being better or worse. Although I attribute this to...

Re: Longtime lurker New User

Hi Dan, nice to see that you participate now in the forum, and great results! What I find interesting is that you got such a nice micrasterias photo from so few separate shots. Do you have a certain method to select your focus planes? Our university in Hamburg maintains a big desmid collection. A m...

Re: Leica DM questions

Ahhhh Pete, that's a fantastic initiative. I used to run the life-sciences lab at a university. Outreach is SO important. I regurally take my orthoplan into schools to show & teach kids about the micro-world. I am that fussy ;) so I’ll start hunting for a 35mm HC camera adapter if this is the optima...

Re: Longtime lurker New User

Hi Dan, I have admired your photos on Instagram so it is nice to see you here on MicrobeHunter. Nice microscope! I have a Zeiss Photomicroscope III with DIC so I am used to giant microscopes like this! I think the PM III is sometimes called a boat anchor. Tim Oh Hey Tim! Great to meet you outside I...

Re: Longtime lurker New User

Thanks Apochronaut! Your so right, optically the Reichart holds it own against modern objectives. Perhaps there are small wavelength specific advancements beneficial to specific applications. But these don't translate back into a radically better image. Also totally agree on objectives, a 60-63x was ...

Re: Longtime lurker New User

Very fine. Scope and image. Just for my own reference. That was with the 40X 1.0 oil planapo? Thanks Apochronaut, yes its the 40x PlanAPO Iris, its an incredible objectibve. I have the 100x PlanAPO Oeliris also, which is every bit as good. Heres a stack of a cymbella using 100x from a strew slide i...

Re: Leica DM questions

Pete your an absolute legend! So much information here, Thanks! I’m not 100% sold on this scope yet. I was hoping to take this chance to downsize from the Polyvar which I absolutely love but perhaps not. That will be a wonderful scope - congratulations. There is a listing of Leica HC objectives onli...

Re: Leica DM questions

There is probably a manual on-line, that should give you some guidance or more than likely you can download one from Leica Microsystems. Regarding the prism combinations. Perhaps a D2 for the 100X. I have never encountered a 1.63 N.A. objective. Objectives of over 1.6 N.A. have been made going way ...

Leica DM questions

Hi Everyone new to the forum just made a post in intro so I’m going to jump straight into my Tech question here. I’m going to buy a superb well looked after DMRB from a ex-collegue. The microscope is Trans with DIC at 10, 20, 40 and 63x. Prisms are as follows 10 = K2 & A 20 = K2 & C 40 = K3 and C 63...

Longtime lurker New User

Hi my name is Dan I’m a phycologist (algae scientist) in the UK. I own an awesome Reichert polyvar trans with DIC. I photograph Microalgae for work and fun, and have an obsession with Desmids (who doesn’t ). Here’s a Pic of my microscope https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51174164093_9c208b143b_w.j...
